New Database: Early English Books Online

The Library provides now access to Early English Books Online!

Early English Books Online contains digital facsimile page images of virtually every work printed in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and British North America and works in English printed elsewhere from 1473-1700. This incomparable collection contains more than 130,000 titles and more than 17 million scanned pages covering more than 30 languages from Algonquin to Welsh, as well as variant editions and multiple copies.

New Database: International Medieval Bibliography

The International Medieval Bibliography (IMB) is a multidisciplinary bibliographic database covering Europe, North Africa and the Middle East for the entire period from AD 300 to 1500. It aims to provide a comprehensive, current bibliography of articles in journals and miscellany volumes (conference proceedings, essay collections or Festschriften) published worldwide in over 35 different languages.

The International Medieval Bibliography comprises 400,000 article records on every aspect of the Middle Ages, with over 16,000 new records being added annually in quarterly updates. A printed annual update of new records is published twice a year. All articles are fully classified by date, subject and location, and provide full bibliographical records. The IMB offers a tool for medievalists to identify the contents of current work published throughout Europe, the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region.

The discipline areas to which the IMB is relevant include Classics, English Language and Literature, History and Archaeology, Theology and Philosophy, Medieval European Languages and Literatures, Arabic and Islamic Studies, History of Education, Art History, Music, Theatre and Performance Arts, Rhetoric and Communication Studies.

Featured Database: MLA International Bibliography

The MLA International Bibliography is a subject index for books, articles and websites published on modern languages, literatures, folklore, and linguistics. It is produced by the Modern Language Association (MLA), an organization dedicated to the study and teaching of language and literature.

The electronic version of the Bibliography dates back to the 1920s 1925 and contains millions of citations from journals & series as well as book publishers.

Coverage includes literature from all over the world–Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America. Folklore is represented by folk literature, music, art, rituals, and belief systems. Linguistics and language materials range from history and theory of linguistics, comparative linguistics, semantics, stylistics, and syntax to translation. Other topics include literary theory and criticism, dramatic arts (film, radio, television, theater), and history of printing and publishing.

Kanopy Streaming Available @ Memorial Library

kanopyWe are pleased to announce that the Library has recently introduced the new Netflix-like video streaming service, Kanopy, located on the Librarytab in myRedDragon. By clicking the Library Databases tab, you will find Kanopy in the list of databases alphabetical by title. You can also click here to start watching:  http://cortland.kanopystreaming.com/

Kanopy offers a broad selection of over 26,000 streaming films, documentaries and training covering various educational topics and feature films: business, the arts, training, foreign language films, health sciences, media and communication, natural sciences, social sciences, teacher education and more.

Featured producers in Kanopy’s collection include Criterion Collection, PBS, California Newsreel, Kino Lorber, First Run Features, BBC, Roland Collection, MVD, Seventh Art, Psychotherapy. net, Symptom, Media, Education Foundation, and hundreds of other leading producers.

The films can be watched from anywhere, anytime by all students, faculty, and staff. The films have full public performance rights (as long as groups do not charge admission for showing the film) and have unlimited simultaneous use.

In addition to being able to browse the Kanopy website, records for individual films will soon begin appearing our library discovery tool.

films on demand logoThe library provides access to Films on Demand, a streaming educational video collection containing over 20,203 full-length videos and 233,239 video clips. These videos cover all subjects from the hard sciences to the humanities and are from producers such as Films for the Humanities, the History Channel, National Geographic and the BBC.

statistalogo.400x0Currently, we have access to Statista, http://www.statista.com  an online statistics database that  provides access to data from market and opinion research institutions, as well as from business organizations and government . Data and statistics can be exported in the following formats: JPEG, PDF, and XLS.

  • 1 million statistics from over 18,000 sources (including both national and international data)
  • Over 60,000 topics in 20 multidisciplinary categories, ranging from agriculture to media &marketing and consumer & demographic data
  • 1,100 Statista Dossiers and Industry Reports
  • 10,000 studies & reports from third parties

This trial is available until April 23. Statista is accessible only on campus.

Women and Social Movements in the United States 1600 to 2000 brings together primary
documents, books, images, essays, book reviews, Web site reviews, teaching tools, and more. The database chronicles the multiplicity of women’s activism in American public life from Colonial times to the present. The database contains tens of thousands pages of books, pamphlets, and related materials—for example, The History of Woman Suffrage (six volumes, 1881-1922); the proceedings of the national conventions of women’s anti-slavery societies in the 1830s; the proceedings of woman’s rights conventions, 1848-1869; the proceedings of the annual conventions of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union, 1874-1898; and publications of the League of Women Voters, 1920-2000.

worldcatThis database contains almost 150 million records on the holdings of over 71,000 libraries in 112 countries representing 400 languages. WorldCat describes items on thousands of subjects and published in any year since about 1000 BC. It includes records for a range of materials including books, archival materials, many primary sources (manuscripts, early editions, and reproductions such as reprints, facsimiles, and microfilm), bibliographies, computer files, films, musical scores, newspapers, slides, sound recordings, and videotapes. WorldCat does not generally include individual articles, stories in journals, magazines, newspapers, or book chapters. Interlibrary Loan requests can also be made.
