Plagiothecium cavifolium (Brid.) Z. Iwats.

Plagiothecium cavifolium is a very common moss at Hoxie Gorge which grows on various substrates but can most commonly be found on soil in moist habitats. There are two forms of this moss, one is purplish in color (has not been found at Hoxie Gorge), the second form is green and has been found at Hoxie Gorge. The moss is distinctive by its complanate symmetric shiny leaves (Image 2), which are ovate with no visible costa. The capsules are generally inclined with a conical lid (Image 4).
