Polytrichum pallidisetum

Polytrichum pallidisetum Funck

Polytrichum pallidisetum  generally grows on soil or over rocks. The leaves are lanceolate and toothed along the margins. Unlike other Polytrichum species the margins are not rolled or folded over. The capsules are distinctly four sided and often can be found with a hairy calyptra attached. When the capsule matures and the calyptra falls off the capsule has a long conical lid.
