Bazzania trilobata, (L.) A. Gray

Bazzania trilobata is a leafy liverwort which can be found throughout the gorge in small to rather large cushions. It may be found on soil, bases of hemlocks, and even on some decaying logs. It was the most common leafy liverwort that was collected during the study. It is identifiable by the incubously attached leaves that have 3 teeth at the apex. The Liverwort grows in a “Y” like formation and has underleaves which are divided several times.

Bazzania denudata– underleaves not nearly as divided and is occasionally missing leaves along its stem.
