Tetraphis pellucida

Tetraphis pellucida Hedw.

Tetraphis pellucida can most commonly be found on rotting logs. Leaves are ovate with a short acute tip, and often no longer then 2 mm. The moss grows in upright tufts and and generally contain sporophytes or gemmae cups.

Tetraphis pellucida is unique by itsĀ  4 peristome teeth on a slender upright capsule, most mosses have numerous peristome teeth

The mosses that do not produce saprophytes may produce gemmae cups instead, which form at the tips of the moss.
