Ceratodon purpureus

Ceratodon purpureus (Hedw.) Brid.

Ceratodon purpureus prefers to grow in disturbed areas, such as, the gravel road. The moss can grow with either a purplish or green look to it. The capsules when matured have a purple tint to them. The leaves are lanceolate and fan out when wet creating a star like look. The costa is strong and apparent. When dry the leaves become contorted.
