Brachythecium velutinum

Brachythecium velutinum (Hedw.) Schimp.

Brachythecium velutinum can be found on bases of trees or on soil or on rock. The leaves are lanceolate to falcate, and sometimes the narrow apex of the leave will twist (see Images). The apex of the leaf is slightly serrated. When wet the leaves are translucent. When dry the leaves are relatively shiny.  The leaves are spread when wet or dry. The capsule is curved with a conical operculum (Image 2 & 5).
