Climacium dendroides, (Hedw.) F. Weber & D. Mohr
Climacium dendroides also known as the tree moss grows vertically on a mostly leafless stem before branching out and giving off the appearance of a miniature tree. It can generally be found in wetter areas and along the gorge. The leaves are pleated length wise with a toothed apex. The leaves are typically between 1.5 mm to 3 mm long, and are lanceolate spreading slightly when wet. A costa is present in the leaves.
Compared to:
Climacium americanum– leaves wider with lobes at the base of them, leaf apex smoother.
Thamnobryum alleghaniense -Leaves are unpleated, branches generally curve towards the ground.
