Brachythecium oxycladon (Brid.) A. Jaeger
Brachythecium oxycladon commonly grows on rocks and soil in shady areas. Note the slightly inclined capsules in image 1. The leaves are ovate to lanceolate and strongly pleated (see image 4). Some branches grow vertically while the majority spread across its substrate. When wet the leaves slightly fold out, when dry they fold in tightly to the branches and stem giving a rope-like appearance.
