Diphyscium foliosum (Hedw.) D. Mohr

Diphyscium foliosum is a small moss with capsules that are larger than its leaves. The leaves appear lingulate and when dry become contorted.  The capsule looks like a tear drop and has several long skinny leaves that grow along side it that resemble hair. It can be found along side the gravel road on the shaded banks.
