With a tremendous pedigree as the son of Woody Guthrie, Arlo Guthrie’s folk roots ran deep as did his songs of protest and social injustice. Best known for his 18-minute-long masterpiece “Alice’s Restaurant Massacre,” the song as a symbol of the late 1960s, became a Thanksgiving tradition aired in its entirety on both college and rock radio stations. One of the stars of Woodstock in 1969, Arlo toured consistently from the mid-1960s until his announced tour retirement in 2020. During his performance at Cortland in 1977 at Moffett Gym, Arlo was promoting his Greatest Hits album which included a mix of his own songs with songs by Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan. Sadly, Arlo rarely played “Alice’s Restaurant Massacre’ in concert and likely didn’t play the song at Moffett Gym.
