- Submissions must analyze at least one literary or cultural text such as a poem, novel, short story, movie, television show, song, music video, or TikTok trend.
- We also welcome essays on topics related to literary and cultural analysis (for example, the cognitive benefits of reading fiction).
- We accept both short-form (around 800 words) and long-form submissions (up to 2000 words). All long-form submissions should engage with existing scholarship on your selected text(s).
- Tell our audience why your interpretation of this text (or texts) matters: how can it help us understand our current moment? Explain why your argument is relevant to our community, for example, by drawing connections to real world situations, culture, or something that is affecting the Cortland community today.
- Use MLA-style citations and include a Works Cited.
- Please include a short 1-2 sentence author biography (major, clubs, interests, hobbies, etc.) and a headshot (or nonrepresentational image) to serve as your author photo. You are also welcome to include an email address if you would like to be contacted by our readers.
- We do not accept any form of hate speech or discrimination.
- We do not accept fiction, poetry, or unrevised academic essays.
- The use of generative AI in submissions is strictly prohibited.
Submissions can be emailed as a Word Doc or Google Doc (not a PDF!) to danica.savonick@cortland.edu.
