{"id":9965,"date":"2026-03-09T12:33:22","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T16:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.cortland.edu\/dragon-chronicle\/?p=9965"},"modified":"2026-04-06T17:56:06","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T21:56:06","slug":"spring-events-student-opportunities-to-connect-before-the-end-of-the-semester","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.cortland.edu\/dragon-chronicle\/2026\/03\/09\/spring-events-student-opportunities-to-connect-before-the-end-of-the-semester\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Events: Student Opportunities to Connect Before the End of the Semester"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With a wide range of cultural events, performances and wellness programs planned, the spring semester offers students multiple opportunities to get involved on campus, relax and prepare for the end of the academic year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cultural celebrations, career workshops, wellness initiatives and social activities are among the programs planned across campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For many students, these events provide a chance to take a break from coursework while still staying engaged with campus life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI like when the school hosts events like karaoke or trivia because it gives students something fun to do during the week,\u201d said a senior in Communication Studies, Alexia Zois. \u201cIt\u2019s a good way to meet people and take a break from studying.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Celebrating Women\u2019s History Month<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In recognition of Women\u2019s History Month, the campus will host Celebrating Women Artists and Authors on March 11 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Old Main Colloquium Room 220.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event invites members of the campus community to share the women writers and artists who have influenced them. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate by discussing creative figures who have made meaningful impacts on their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Career Preparation Opportunities <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students looking to strengthen their job or graduate school applications can attend Get Resume Ready, a virtual workshop hosted by Career Services on March 12 at 4 p.m. through Handshake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The session will focus on building effective r\u00e9sum\u00e9s and helping students present their skills and experiences in a professional way. Organizers encourage students from all majors to attend and bring questions about internships, job searches and graduate school preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior Education major, Gina Maninno, shares her opinion on how events like r\u00e9sum\u00e9 workshops can be especially helpful for students preparing for internships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA lot of students want internships but aren\u2019t always sure how to present their experience,\u201d Maninno said. \u201cWorkshops like this make it easier to understand what employers are actually looking for.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Social Events Across Campus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Several social events scheduled later in the semester aim to provide students with opportunities to relax and connect with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>March Karaoke will take place on March 31, from 7 to 9 p.m. on the first floor of Corey Union. The event will feature music, food and prizes from the campus store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can also participate in a DIY Tote Bags event on April 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Corey Union Fireplace Lounge, where participants will design and decorate their own tote bags. Later that evening, Trivia Tuesday will be held from 9 to 10:30 p.m. in the Corey Union Exhibition Lounge, offering snacks and prizes for participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Health and Wellness Programs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Health Promotion continues to host Wellness Wednesday events throughout the semester, with each week focusing on different aspects of student wellness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The March 11 event, scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Student Life Center Lobby, will focus on safe spring break practices and provide students with free resources and information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another health-focused program, Safer Sex Express, will take place April 2 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on the Corey Union steps. The event allows students to ask questions about sexual health and pick up informational materials and free supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cultural Celebration: Holi Festival Returns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the semester\u2019s largest cultural events will be the return of the campus Holi Celebration on April 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. on the Neubig lawn.<br>Holi, a vibrant festival celebrated in parts of India, Nepal and Pakistan, marks the arrival of spring and honors the Hindu god Vishnu. The event, organized by faculty members including Dr. Amy Direnzo and Dr. Anisha Saxena along with the International Programs Office, invites students to participate in the colorful tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Theater and Outdoor Activities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students interested in the performing arts can attend the campus production of <em>Cinderella<\/em>, which will run April 10\u201312 and April 17\u201319 in the Dowd Fine Arts Center Theater.<br>Later in the month, University Police will host the K9 Meekah Spring Walking Challenge on April 22 near the Professional Studies Building.
