On February 7th, the North Carolina Tar Heels hosted the Duke Blue Devils in a game that people mark their calendars for. The blue blood tradition is as old as college basketball itself and consists of seven division one teams so when one faces another, the event is highly remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This matchup is different from a normal blue blood game however due to both teams being ranked fairly high and holding highly valued freshmen, Duke being fourth in the country and North Carolina standing at 11th. The Duke Blue Devils hold a weapon in Cameron Boozer who was previously ranked third in this recruiting class and the North Carolina Tar Heels hold Caleb Wilson who was previously ranked fifth in his class, making this an all-out battle in order to prove themselves to the next level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These teams also have immense history between them. Both are in the top five for most wins all time by a college basketball team and have played each other a total of 261 times in which Duke leads it all time 144-117. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Blue Devils took the first half of the game, winning it 41-29 and maintaining the lead for an immense 94% of the game even though the game maintained its closeness. The largest lead was held by the Blue Devils, and it was only 13 points which compared to the Tar Heels biggest lead of three, seems like a lot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second half of this game was played as if it was a tennis match, the Blue Devils and Tar Heels trading bucket after bucket, however the Tar Heels began to inch closer and closer led by their former five-star freshmen, Caleb Wilson. The game was found tied 68-68 with 10 seconds left. Derek Dixon is found trapped on the baseline but finds a way to kick it out to senior guard, Seth Tremble. He releases the ball with a second left on the clock and hits a three pointer to put his Tar Heels up and eventually leading to their win. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many players stood out for these two teams; however, Caleb Wilson truly stole the show on many levels. He ended the game with a total of 23 points while only missing four shots and shooting 100% from the free throw line. On the defensive side, Caleb Wilson also racked up two steals and a huge block against a fellow former five-star, Cameron Boozer, which sent the roof off of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cameron Boozer did show up to compete as well though. He led Duke in categories such as scoring with a total of 24 points on 21 shots, 3 assists, and 11 rebounds which gave him a double-double. Both of the five-stars showed that they can compete at the next level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This marks a huge win for the North Carolina Tar Heels in so many ways. The Duke Blue Devils had only one loss coming into this game, so it was good to knock off an opponent with such few losses. Also, the Blue Devils and Tar Heels share the same conference that being the ACC, known as one of the hardest conferences in the history of college basketball. Duke stands at the top and North Carolina had stood at sixth before this win which should give them a good boost in conference play. Finally, this handed Duke its first loss in conference play and has the possibility to slow down their momentum for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
