The Homer Trojans boys basketball team wrapped up their senior night with an impressive 72-46 victory over Susquehanna Valley Tuesday night. Senior Wyatt Wilbur led the way with 24 points for the Trojans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For their last game of the regular season, Homer displayed their dominance from the start, maintaining a comfortable lead throughout the game. The 72-46 score reflected the team\u2019s dominance, capping their regular season with a 9-9 record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The seniors, playing in front of their home crowd for the last time, didn’t disappoint. It was a mix of emotions as they showcased their skills, from three-pointers to steals, leaving a lasting impression on their home court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOf course senior night gave us all a little motivation,\u201d Wilbur said. \u201cThere were a lot more people there supporting us than we\u2019ve been used to. Aside from that, we knew that was going to be our last home game of the season, and for us seniors, of our career. I think we\u2019re all going to miss this team that has been together since we were kids.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Trojans got off to a hot start Tuesday night as they started the first quarter 15-7, and ended the first half with a 21-point lead, 33-12. Ending the third quarter, the Trojans lead climbed to 53-33.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wilbur accumulated 24 points and has been a key player for the Trojans this season.
\u201cI was definitely hungry to get back this season,\u201d Wilbur said. \u201cLast year I missed many games due to injury and was upset that I couldn’t help my team win. My mindset all season has been the same – help the team win the best I could.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Senior Tyler Van Etten’s sharpshooting from beyond the arc contributed significantly to the team’s success, as he finished with 17 points. Junior Kaden Durham totaled 12 points for Homer, complemented by a performance of ten rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Senior Mitchell Earle orchestrated the plays with an impressive 11 assists.
On Saturday evening, the Trojans hosted a seeding meeting to determine their first sectionals matchup. They are set to play against New Hartford at 7:15 on February 20th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been preparing for this all season by lifting weekly and competing the best we could,\u201d Wilbur said. \u201cWe are the best version of ourselves right now. I think our main focus has got to be on how we cannot assume the outcome of a game. We can\u2019t overlook, or overestimate anybody.
