Over this past weekend, students and faculty were hit with one of the coldest few days we\u2019ve seen in a while. From this Thursday until Saturday night, temperatures stayed in the 0 degree range, as with the wind chills the real feel was as long as -30 degrees. Understandably as Cortland and the majority of Upstate New York is vulnerable to cold winters, it\u2019s still uncommon for temperatures like these to arise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While we can\u2019t control how the weather will play out, students can prepare themselves to make sure they have the right necessities and take any necessary precautions<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Firstly, take a look at the weather on your phone’s app or a website that provides any valuable weather information, as knowing what\u2019s to come helps prepare well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Make sure you and whoever else you live with have food, water, toiletries and any other assets you may need. When severe weather comes about, you never know how long it could last and if it\u2019d be safe to leave your home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Checking constantly for any service announcements within Cortland\u2019s local area. Going onto any of Cortland\u2019s local news and broadcasting systems for any valuable weather updates could help determine how you may want to plan your day and how to do so accordingly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In weather like we\u2019ve seen over the prior days, you should stay off the roads as much as possible. Most major car collisions and accidents statistically happen during severe weather conditions, so it\u2019s best to not drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Students should also check their Outlook emails for any important updates from professors of the school board in general. If classes are to be canceled or moved virtually, it\u2019s important to know this in advance, that way we are able to stay inside as much as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you are to go outside, it\u2019s important to make sure you are dressed warm enough, as being underdressed in severe weather is one way of becoming sick or even developing hypothermia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
