Seniors especially understand that right now, with graduation on its way, it feels like everything\u2019s happening too fast. You look back at random nights, routines, and walking to class, and they all of a sudden feel really important. But back then, they never felt like anything special. It\u2019s like you were there, but not fully present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lot of it comes down to always thinking about what you have to do next\u2024 You\u2019re in class, but you have to do something else\u2024 You&#8217;re with your friends, but already planning the rest of your day\u2024 You might be hanging out, but your mind is somewhere else\u2024 So instead of really living through things, you just kind of move through them and realize you might be missing something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>College makes this even easier to fall into\u2024 Everything gets routine so quickly\u2024 You walk the same paths\u201a sit in the same spots\u201a see the same people\u201a and it all starts to blur together\u2024 Now that graduation is here, those \u201cnormal\u201d days feel somewhat different, like you should be paying more attention, but you don\u2019t fully know how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another reason we miss things is that we are convinced there will always be next time, another weekend\u201a another random night with friends\u201a another chance to do the same thing again\u2024 That attitude sticks with you through most of college\u201a but senior year is where that takes a real turn\u2024 You start realizing there actually isn&#8217;t that much time left\u201a and suddenly things that you&#8217;ve done a hundred times before become a little more temporary\u2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lot of the time, you don\u2019t spend time missing things because when something becomes too accessible or repetitive, you assume it will always be there, so you don\u2019t really take it in. And then later\u201a that&#8217;s what really stands out\u2024 The things that were the most normal to you at the time\u2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The weirdest part is it&#8217;s not the obvious things you miss\u201a not even graduation and big events everyone talked about\u201a it&#8217;s the small\u201a random moments\u2024 It&#8217;s the little things\u201a the in-between moments\u201a like walking around campus when the weather finally turns and it feels like spring\u2024 Sitting around your college apartment with your friends\u201a not really doing anything\u201a talking about nothing\u201a laughing at something that didn&#8217;t really matter at all\u2024 You don&#8217;t notice it when it happens, but it sticks with you\u2024 And maybe that&#8217;s the hardest part about this point in college\u2024 You know things are ending\u201a but they&#8217;re not over yet\u2024 You&#8217;re still in it\u201a still living the routine\u201a still doing the same everyday things\u201a but there&#8217;s the quiet awareness that it won&#8217;t always be like this\u2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may not be about making every moment meaningful or forcing yourself to be present\u201a as that&#8217;s not always realistic or helpful\u2024 It becomes more just noticing\u201a even for a second\u201a that this\u201a right now\u201a isn&#8217;t going to last forever\u2024 You start catching yourself actually looking around more instead of just rushing to the next thing\u2024 And maybe letting yourself slow down for a second, just enough to actually feel it while it&#8217;s still happening\u2024<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I think there is a strange feeling where you don&#8217;t realize something mattered until it\u2019s close to being over.
