Oasis Documentary: Don’t Look Back in Anger

Kayla Wasserman · October 20, 2026

In September 2026, the English rock band Oasis touched the hearts of many music lovers with the release of a documentary covering their groundbreaking reunion tour in 2025. Directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace focused on the relationship of brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher in the band, while exhibiting just how deeply their music was felt by their fans after their “breakup”.

Background

Oasis formed in 1991 in Manchester, England, with four members, then became a five-member band shortly after Noel Gallagher joined. In 2009, the group publicly broke up due to a physical fight between Liam and Noel backstage before performing at Rock en Seine in Paris, France.

The Gallagher brothers went through many emotional rollercoasters, arguing over lifestyles, personality contrasts, ego, and typical brotherly rivalry. This ultimately foreshadowed the band’s breakup, as well as the brothers’ 15-year separation with hardly any contact.

Documentary

The Documentary featured behind-the-scenes footage of their rehearsals, specifically and most importantly the very first one after the separation. Throughout the film’s visuals, it was primarily narrated by previous interviews with Noel and Liam to truly walk viewers through the emotions and process of their story.

Both brothers never held back in their discussions, spoke from the heart, and brought humor to the voiceovers to give viewers an accurate depiction of those big and small moments.

The Music

Oasis is popularly known as a British Rock ‘n’ Roll band that creates soul-touching melodies with lyrics that deliver an impactful and vital message to listeners. With 142 released songs, Oasis dives into a variety of ideas they aim to portray through music. These concepts range from a sense of rebellion to nostalgic memories, to a positive outlook on life, or not “looking back in anger.”

“Don’t Look Back in Anger” being the title of this documentary as well as their #2 song, carries a large amount of significance in how we live our everyday lives. It serves as a reminder to not hold grudges on what lies behind when you’re already ahead of it.

Why spend life reflecting on the past when you have so much more to live for? Family, friends, new experiences, new opportunities, self-journey, and improvement give you a reason to keep moving forward.

“Looking Back” can prevent you from experiencing these beautiful aspects of life that you may not know exist in the moment. Though it may be difficult to come to this realization and truly live by it, Oasis connects with people through music that offers a sense of guidance, belonging, and harmony.

Throughout the documentary, we were shown panoramic shots of oceans of people cheering, screaming, and jumping up and down. When thousands of strangers in a stadium are singing along to these songs, it not only provides community, but is eye-opening to know you’re not alone.

Tying together with these wide shots are close-up, personal footage of raw, human emotion from fans tearing up with deep passion over how music touches them.

Noel Gallagher explains, “Music is a thing that changes people’s lives. It has the capacity to make young people’s lives better… I want people to feel good when they hear it.”

This quote from the documentary is what Oasis is all about. They care about touching their listeners in ways they could’ve never imagined, more than anything else.

Liam and Noel Gallagher overcoming their disagreement ultimately created something so beautiful. This revival of Oasis had a foundation of one idea and one idea only.

Don’t Look Back in Anger.
