Planning the Perfect Summer Trip

Kayla Wasserman · May 11, 2026

People Involved

How many people are going on vacation? A family trip has a slightly better chance of being more organized simply because the parents/guardians are usually the ones to coordinate the majority of the trip. On the other hand, if you’re looking into a vacation with friends from college or high school, it may require more of a “divide and conquer” system meaning everyone involved has a certain job to do when planning. Costs, dates, flights, hotels, transportation, or destinations to visit can all be things people can take on.

Destination

Where are you taking your vacation? The most obvious part of this is everyone coming to agreement. With finishing the school year or having a break from work, people’s idea of vacation could be different. One could want a full relaxation and calm trip compared to an action packed and busy trip. With both being considered an escape from reality, discussing this beforehand is necessary. Some examples of a relaxing trip could be Sedona, AZ, Cape Cod, The Blue Lagoon, Hawaii, or Iceland. Examples of a trip full of action and activity could be Las Vegas, Ibiza, Florida, or Cabo.

The Cost

Before you bring your focus to the enjoyment of a vacation, the budget needs to be discussed. Usually, summer is the most expensive time for traveling, so booking your flights or hotels in advance can be very beneficial. If you are traveling with friends or a group of people, there should be ways to evenly split costs for things such as dinners, transportation, gas, groceries, activities, and more. Having a planned conversation before jumping ahead of things makes room for honesty and fewer chances of someone paying unfairly. If these ideas are talked about last minute that could lead to confusion, incoordination, or a big mess up.

Keeping Organized

When making plans for a trip, there is so much important information to keep track of. Having a space to keep all of this information together can only help you. Doing this digitally provides more room for smoothness and more information. You can make a group chat with everyone involved in the trip and hold the information in there for whenever someone needs to see it. Important things like the times of your flight, boarding passes, confirmation numbers, or addresses could be sent in there. If you are traveling somewhere unfamiliar or with a confusing terrain, downloading some sort of map before-hand and doing research on those places will save you a lot of trouble in case things go wrong. Another important thing to keep in mind is to have digital backup IDs and boarding passes. Keep in mind, use your device to its fullest potential!

Looking at these steps, it is clear that there is much more “behind the scenes” work to a vacation than appeared to be. Preparing well can make your trip significantly more enjoyable for you and the people you’re with. Once all the logistics are finished, all the relaxation, fun, and memories can begin!
