Goodbye winter, hello spring! After many long months of cold weather here at Cortland, things are finally starting to warm up. More people are outside, good vibes, outdoor sports, the list goes on. There are so many spring/summer activities that aren’t possible in the winter and are more enjoyable with nicer weather.
Physical Activity
Having the opportunity to get outside and move your body is something we take advantage of every day. Going on a walk or run anytime during the day can positively benefit your health and is a productive way to start off your day. Getting a good sweat is a great feeling and your body will later thank you. If walking around campus isn’t the ideal scenery, hikes are a good alternative which pushes you to your limits in order to reach a certain viewpoint, making it worthwhile. This doesn’t even have to be a crazy workout. As long as you’re doing it, that’s a step in the right direction.
Sports
Going hand-in hand with outdoor activities, playing sports is a fun and competitive activity that so many people find joy in. Getting a couple of friends together to play something can create enjoyable memories as well as keeping your body moving. Spikeball, volleyball, frisbee, football, baseball, or basketball are some popular sports activities people like to do around campus. Participating in intramural sports at Cortland is another fun option to look at which is competitive but not too competitive and has a strong team feeling if you don’t belong to one already.
Relax
With our long and cold winters, feeling the warm sun is like a long awaited breath of fresh air. Relax and take time to unwind your body. It can be as simple as setting up a blanket outside with friends or by yourself. Tanning is something people love to do once the weather gets nicer as well as a little picnic with food, drinks, and activities. Another fun idea can be visiting a lake or waterfall nearby. Outdoor yoga or meditation is also a great way to clear your mind and unwind from any stress.
Campus and Social Life
Taking a look into the campus resources, there are many opportunities to make the most of your time with the nice weather. Student organizations and clubs are always hosting events for people to attend, so showing up to those can be a fun activity and a chance to find new ones to join. There are so many unique options for joining clubs such as the outdoor adventure club, dance club, kinesiology club, and student volunteer club. Finding or trying new food or drink places nearby with friends can be enjoyable too because who doesn’t love a good sweet treat.
Taking in all of these ideas, being outside in warm weather brings multiple opportunities to have fun, try new things, and make the best of your time here at Cortland. Though you may not realize it, campus life comes alive as the sun comes out. The winter inhibits so many things people love to do, but no worries, warmer weather is finally here!
