Lauren Mandel, who goes by LØLØ, is a Canadian singer-songwriter who has just released her sophomore album, god forbid a girl spits out her feelings! on April 19th. Each track is like an angst-filled, cheeky gossip story. Her sound is a unique fusion of alternative rock, indie, and pop punk, with dry vocals and punchy lyrics. Her music is the perfect soundtrack for a post-heartbreak revenge adventure or just to bounce around in your bedroom.
LØLØ’s been making music since 2018, but she didn’t garner much attention outside of occasional play on Canadian radio. Fast forward to the COVID-19 pandemic, and she began to post alternative cover songs to TikTok. She began to gain an audience and was later signed to Hopeless Records. Releasing her first album, Falling for Robots and Wishing I Was One, showcased her multitude of talents. Her vibe is both effortlessly cool and emotionally vulnerable. Additionally, she’s collaborated with other alternative artists like Maggie Lindemann and Girlfriends. She also did a cover of the iconic “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen for their A Whole New Sound album, which featured an assortment of pop-punk covers of Disney tunes. Back in 2025, she signed with Fearless Records and has been releasing banger after banger, culminating in her album release.
The album balances itself between acoustic ballads and high-energy rock songs. Her lyricism is extremely witty and appeals to the alternative pop/rock audience she’s attracted. Songs such as “me with no shirt on” and “lobotomy & u” depict a truly relatable experience of a fling fizzling out. On the other hand, “American Zombie” and “007” pair the emotional rush of a new crush with the upbeat musicality present in her songs.
The eighth track on the album, titled “the devil wears converse” exemplifies her vibe and sound perfectly. With a thumping drum beat, LØLØ conveys a sense of flirtatiousness while fawning over someone who has caught her eye. As the guitar ramps up, she paints a picture of her desires as “the prettiest monster”. The song continues to build and really demonstrates the attitude of someone telling you about their crush.
LØLØ has proven herself to be a musician with excellent capabilities and relatable stories to share. Her tongue-in-cheek approach to songwriting is a breath of fresh air, and she’s truly not afraid or ashamed of being all that she is. This album is only a stepping stone on her path to greatness, so keep an ear out for her future releases.
