Euphoria Sundays Are Back… But Does It Still Hit the Same?

Jamie Heffez · April 20, 2026

After years of waiting, Euphoria has finally returned, and fans have a lot to say. The last season aired back in 2022, so it has been a while since viewers last checked in with Rue and the rest of the chaotic cast. While the long wait for this season built excitement and anticipation, some of that momentum has faded. Many fans have grown up since the show’s peak, and the intensity of the series is not hitting the same way for everyone. Even with all the hype, it already feels like the show is trying to prove it still has the same impact.

The new trailer proved that Euphoria is not slowing down. If anything, it looks more chaotic than ever. The show still leans into fast-paced, emotionally overwhelming storytelling, and this season seems no different.

Now that the first episode has officially aired, Euphoria Sundays are back. It is crazy that the last time I was tuning in weekly, I was a senior in high school, watching with my friends at home, and now I am a senior in college, watching with my college friends in our college house. A lot of viewers of Euphoria have grown in many ways, and people are saying the show may not resonate the same way it did when season two came out.

My friends watched exactly at 9 p.m. when the episode dropped, popcorn ready and blankets on. Right away, we saw Nate and Cassie seeming to be engaged, and Nate is a lot more chill, cool, calm, and collected than he once was. Cassie, on the other hand, is nagging him about not having enough money to give her the wedding she wants, and she is trying to convince him of her own ways she can acquire the money. They reference OnlyFans a lot, and this line of work, which, yes, is part of our culture these days, but it does seem a little overdone. Each character already feels oversexualized, which a lot of fans have noticed and are unsure of.

Rue is, of course, stressing all of us out right off the bat. She is dealing with serious drug-related issues again, including owing a dangerous amount of money to the wrong people, which immediately raises the stakes. Her storyline still feels intense, but for some viewers, it is starting to feel repetitive compared to the interpersonal drama that really defines the show.

We saw a little bit of Lexi and Maddy, but not enough to fully understand where this season will take them. Lexi seems to be starting a new chapter, possibly living on her own and getting involved in more creative work, while Maddy is shown in more adult, professional-type settings, hinting at a new direction for her as well. We also see Lexi and Rue have a conversation where they mention Fez, reminding viewers of his presence in a subtle but emotional way. It is very nice to see that they are keeping Fez’s character alive in this way. Even though Angus Cloud passed away in real life, these small moments feel respectful and meaningful. Another character to look out for is Eric Dane, who was not shown in the first episode. Following his recent health struggles, his appearance this season may feel especially meaningful for viewers, and possibly one of the last times we see him on screen, which adds an emotional layer to his return.

Overall, the first episode was slightly underwhelming, but it is clear they are setting up the season for what is to come. Reactions so far have been mixed, with many fans unsure how to feel.

Still, there is no denying Euphoria’s cultural impact. Whether people are fully invested or just curious, the show continues to spark conversation. And for me, I will absolutely be tuning in. As a pop culture fan, it feels almost required. There is something fun about having weekly episodes again, watching in real time, and immediately turning to social media to see everyone else’s reactions and theories.

So while I may not be completely sure how I feel about this new season yet, one thing is certain: Euphoria Sundays are back, and that alone makes it worth watching.
