Olivia Rodrigo’s Third Album: Everything the Fans Need to Know

Gabriella Dietz · April 13, 2026

Olivia Rodrigo has moved past her GUTS era and is now entering a new one with her third album. I’m sure everyone is excited that OR3 finally has a name and release date as fans have been waiting for a while now. Not only that, but it appears that Olivia has completely altered her aesthetic from her previous albums, which has further piqued her fans’ interest. You won’t want to miss these key details about the project:

Title and Release Date

Olivia Rodrigo has teased her new era ever since she wrapped her GUTS world tour in August 2025. However, on April 2, 2026, she finally announced the title, cover, and release date of her third studio album. The name of the album is you seem so sad for a girl so in love, which broke her tradition of four-letter, all-caps titles of her previous albums. I think this change marks a new beginning for Olivia as she has grown since her earlier albums and entered adulthood. Furthermore, the record will be out on June 16, 2026, and the cover features Olivia Rodrigo hanging upside down from a swing in a pink dress.

New Theme

From what information we’ve gotten about this album already, it seems that it will be different from Olivia’s past albums. Not only has the style of her title changed, but she has also shifted her whole branding color. She announced the new color by painting over her mural of her signature purple with the new color and album title. Instead of her usual purple, the new era features a softer, pastel pink as the official color for the album. This transition marks the end of her angsty, “rock chick” era and introduces us to a new lovestruck and soft theme for her third era. The color change suggests her new music will be softer and more romantic than her previous high-energy grunge songs.

Songs and Genre

Her shift in color to a soft pink, along with the title of you seem so sad for a girl so in love, aligns with what the songs on her third album, which will feature 13 tracks, will be about. In an email sent to fans to pre-order the album, Olivia teased the songs by writing, “No matter how hard I try to write love songs, they always come out laced with a little melancholy.” Before the release of this album, Olivia told British Vogue that it would be full of “sad love songs.” She also revealed to the publication that one track would have a “dreamier, hazier” vibe and was inspired by Sex and the City. This one song would be about a moment in the show when Miranda tells Steve, “Whenever something funny happens, I always want to tell you about it.” I think these hints entail that the songs on this album will be lighthearted and loving with some heartache and longing to them.

Recording Process

Olivia Rodrigo was aware that fans wanted her back in the studio to work on OR3 as soon as the GUTS tour ended. It wasn’t until March 2025 when she made a post that included a slide showing her in the studio of her long-time producer and collaborator Dan Nigro. Olivia also revealed to Elle in October 2025 that she was working on new music that felt very different from SOUR and GUT, as she had more experience while being on tour. She then told Cosmopolitan in the same month that she didn’t write much on tour, however, she did write her thoughts and was finishing them in her LA home. In February 2026, Dan Nigro hinted at the album’s completion with a post captioned “Finishing records….”

Album Preview Playlist

LiviesHQ released an official playlist to give the fans the mood for you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. It includes some of her past songs that go along with the aesthetic of her third album. Since the track list for OR3 is unconfirmed, this playlist will hopefully keep fans excited until June, when we get the official album.
