Students Share Their Spring Break Plans

giovana.ercolino · March 23, 2026

As we all know the midpoint of the semester is approaching, meaning that many are looking forward to spring break beginning this week! Finally, a time away from classes and assignments. Some may take this opportunity to travel with friends or family, while others may plan to relax at home, catch up on assignments, or even work extra shifts. No matter what you choose to do on your free week, spring break gives students time to recharge before the last final stretch of the semester.

Some students are using this spring break to travel to new places and gain new experiences. Junior Anna Kurtz said she is planning a trip to Guatemala with a couple of friends. “We have had this trip planned since December, one of my friends has been there previously and highly recommended it,” Kurtz says. “We’re all just so excited to see a new country together.” Other students are traveling within the U.S. to meet up with friends at college or to visit a spring break hotspot, Ft. Lauderdale.

While some are traveling to new countries and packing their suitcases, others are just taking the week to relax at home. Sophomore Jahna Natelli is heading home for break. “It’s a chance for me to just relax and be with my family and dog Bailey,” said Natelli. “I miss my bed and my mom’s cooking.” The school year can be busy and even hectic, especially if you are on a club team, taking extra credits, or involved in Greek life.

Many students say that a break is a chance to get back into good habits and sleep schedules. While also just taking a step away from academic stress and focusing on hobbies and personal interests that they might not have time to do at school. However, some students want to mainly focus on staying productive, such as picking up some extra shifts and catching up on schoolwork. Junior Naomi Rod said she already started picking up as many shifts as she could at her job at home. “It’s a good chance for me to earn my money back and try to save up before summer comes,” she says. Especially for first and second year students, with the lack of close parking spots, it’s hard to travel to work outside of campus.

Lastly there are students who choose to spend their time studying for upcoming exams, catching up on any past work, or getting ahead on upcoming assignments. Junior Alyssa VonNessen states, “I’m a student teaching at home next semester so this is a good chance for me to get ahead on lesson plans so my schedule is not so packed up when I head back.”

Nevertheless, spring break is spent in a variety of ways, but one thing to agree on is spring break is definitely needed. Time away from class is so important to avoid a spring slump. The week offers a healthy reset away from deadlines and early alarms before returning to academic responsibilities, Which helps students come back feeling refreshed and ready to finish their semester off strong.
