Why Justin Bieber’s 2026 Grammy Performance Actually Mattered

Jamie Heffez · February 23, 2026

Stage

Justin Bieber has been known for his dislike of red carpets and award shows, and during the 2026 Grammy Awards, we know that this is still the case. He has never been one to fake a smile or pretend he enjoys the spotlight, which has always been one of the most refreshing things about him. He was accompanied by his beautiful wife, Hailey Bieber. The two of them together looked amazing and you could tell they were trying to stay grounded, which stood out in a room that is most likely very loud and overwhelming.

The internet seems to be under the impression that Justin is slightly affected by the jokes made about him at these events in the past. He looked nervous and a little bit on edge, but I think the host, Trevor Noah, kept it very light and appropriate. Trevor talked about how his album Swag was nominated for four Grammys and congratulated him on being a new dad, which felt respectful and genuine rather than uncomfortable.  He doesn’t forget Hailey, of course. He says, “And by the way Hailey, do you have a discount code for the lip tint?” While the joke was clearly meant to be playful and a compliment to her new brand Rhode, Justin did not seem thrilled by it for whatever reason, and his reaction was clipped and posted on TikTok.

As for his performance, many Beliebers have been revived and struck back with their Bieber fever since this performance. It felt like a reminder of why people fell in love with his music in the first place. His vocals are being praised, and even the non- Beliebers were super impressed by his performance.

For his clothing choice, or lack thereof, I see this as his idea of reclaiming himself from the industry that stripped him of so much. He stood there in his underwear with his guitar, which is such a vulnerable state, and was still able to outshine many other vocalists. There were no gimmicks, no costumes, and no huge production.  Justin also had a mirror with him on stage, which made the performance feel personal, almost like we were watching him reflect on himself rather than perform for approval. It stripped away the distance between artist and audience. The purple guitar also stood out to longtime fans, as purple has always been one of Justin’s signature looks from his early career. Seeing it again felt symbolic for Beliebers, like a quiet nod to his younger self and a reminder of how far he has come.

He beautifully sang “Yukon,” a slow, sultry song that allowed his vocals to fully shine. Many fans were a little shocked that he chose this song to sing, but of course Justin won them over with his vocals. The performance felt intimate rather than flashy, and that worked completely in his favor. Hailey was smirking in the audience and clearly knows that her husband is “so back.” When the camera pans to her, you can see how proud she is to call Justin Bieber her husband.

Honestly, I am just happy to see him on stage and singing again. Belieber or not, you cannot deny that his performance was pure talent. After everything he has been through, this performance felt meaningful and authentic. I’m glad Justin is reminding everyone exactly who he is.
