Movies Every College Student Should Watch

Emily Cackett · February 16, 2026

Whether you’re just starting or close to graduating this May, this is a great list of movies you should watch before your time here comes to an end. There will be a night when you’re procrastinating an assignment, snowed in, or just need to watch something that will remind you that everything will work out.

Good Will Hunting:

Depending on what you’re going through, watching Will struggle with relationships, his unique abilities, and discovering who he is has a lasting impact. Seeing someone else work things out is reassuring because it serves as a reminder that it’s acceptable to not have everything together just yet. It’s a good late-night watch because it’s contemplative without being overly dense.

Legally Blonde:

This one in the best possible way, the exact opposite. It’s tough not to enjoy the movie because Elle Woods exudes such confidence and liveliness. Seeing her handle situations with elegance and fun is like the encouragement you didn’t know you needed, even if college can be stressful. It’s difficult not to feel somewhat inspired afterward.

Mona Lisa Smile:

It takes place on a beautiful college campus set in the 1950s, and it’s strangely reassuring to watch the students deal with expectations, freedom, and their futures. Its slower pace and setting have a relaxing effect. It’s the type of film that gives you the sense of relief that it’s not just you who has a lot to figure out.

The Pursuit of Happiness:

This is a sentimental one. While Will Smith’s narrative is emotional, it is also motivational. When you need inspiration or a reminder that persistence and hard work can truly pay off, even in the face of impossible challenges, this is the movie to watch.

The Social Network:

This movie is a sort of “mission-driven movie.” It’s not warm in the conventional sense, but there’s something about seeing college students take on major risks. It appeals to that combination of potential, desire, and pressure. They work all night on ideas and plan for what’s to come. This film does a fantastic job of capturing the craziness that can be college.

Perks of Being a Wallflower:

It’s genuine, awkward, and emotional. It might be all the emotions you might experience in college condensed into a single story. It’s straightforward about how difficult growing up can be. The film offers an honest yet heartbreaking look at how Charlie grew up and how he navigates first love, new friendships, along with his own trauma.

Pitch Perfect:

Pitch Perfect feels reassuring because it portrays a messy yet enjoyable college experience. All of the characters are attempting to survive uncomfortable situations, cope with insecurities, and meet their people. It’s the type of movie you watch when you want to unwind and laugh. It’s such a go-to for so many people since it’s relatable without feeling so heavy.

This list of movies is an escape from your current situation, you may relate and empathize with the story lines, but it still puts things into perspective that you will figure things out. There’s good reason for why so many return to these movies and why you should too.
