Given the current weather conditions, many of us are all likely trapped in our small dorm with nothing to do. I’m sure the cold weather makes everyone just want to wrap up in a blanket and stay in bed all day. However, I know that just lying around can make you bored out of your mind. If you’re experiencing boredom over these snowy winter days, here are some activities to help you escape it:

1. Play a Game
Whether it’s a board game or a card game, I’m sure everyone knows at least a few different games to keep you entertained. You can even get some of the people in your dorm together to make the game even more fun. All you need is either a deck of cards or any game that you can find in the Memorial Library’s Teaching Materials Center or the Student Life Center. Even if it takes some convincing to get a group to play, it will all be worth it in the end when everyone is laughing and having fun instead of being bored in their room.

2. Bake Something
Baking may not seem like an option as there are limited appliances in the dorms, but there are more than you’d think. Just using a microwave, you can make a mug cake for a unique and easy treat. Try one of these: 31 Best Mug Cake Recipes for a Super Easy Treat to warm yourself up during these cold times. Still, you can easily bake a delicious treat in the dorm kitchen with minimal ingredients. Whether you want to get some friends together to make it a group activity or just have a relaxing experience alone, it will keep you busy and you’ll get a delicious reward by the end of it.

3. Binge a TV or Movie Series
If you’re bored from lying in bed but still don’t want to get out from underneath your covers, I don’t blame you, so here’s a solution. You can simply go on any streaming service, like Netflix or Hulu, and find a long TV or movie series to binge-watch. Just grab a snack or maybe a drink, get cozy, and press play. Personally, I love the Harry Potter series, especially on cold days like these, or if you’re more into TV shows, any sitcom would suffice. Some sitcoms I recommend are Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, and Full House.

4. Call Friends or Family
Even though we were just home for a long winter break, it’s easy to miss our friends and family back at home. You may need to put on some headphones or step into your dorm’s lounge to not bother your roommate, but calling someone can be a fun way to relieve you from boredom. I know I’ve called my mom many times since we’ve been back at school already, and I will continue to throughout the semester. There are endless things to talk about that even if I call her to ask a simple question, we’ll end up being on the phone for hours. Texting doesn’t offer the same connection that calling or FaceTiming does, so if you miss your friends and family, just ring them up and chat away.

5. Read a Book
Nothing is better than cuddling up in a bunch of blankets with a warm drink and a good book. Even though I’m sure all of us students will have some reading to do this semester, it’s still nice to read a book that you enjoy. Or if you want to get ahead on some of your classes, you can always pick up your textbook and start reading some of the chapters. Whichever type of book you choose, reading is one of the most fun and educational ways to end your boredom.
I hope that after hearing some of these activities to do when the cold has you stuck inside, you will try them out for yourself. Even though lying in bed is much more comfortable, especially in this weather, it can get boring. While the snow makes going out less enjoyable, you can engage in one of these dorm-friendly activities to have a good time indoors.
