The holidays are the best kind of chaotic. Between classes, assignments, work shifts, and trying to squeeze in a little self-care, it can feel impossible to make time for everything. As much as I love the holiday season, the lights, the food, the excuse to wear a sweater every day, it always comes with a little bit of stress. You want to show up for your friends, enjoy the break, and celebrate without draining your bank account.
If you’re anything like me and my friends, we try to make the most of it by throwing small get-togethers; Friendsgiving dinners, little dessert nights, or cozy movie marathons. It’s a nice way to take a pause in the middle of a hectic semester. But no matter how casual the event, there’s always one big question: what are you bringing?
You don’t have to spend hours cooking or drop a ton of money to make something worth sharing. Appetizers are the perfect solution. They’re low-pressure, budget-friendly, and honestly usually the first thing everyone grabs anyway. Whether you’ve got access to a full kitchen or you’re working with a single baking sheet, here are a few tried-and-true appetizers that make any Friendsgiving table feel complete.

Deviled Eggs
Let’s start with my personal favorite. There’s just something about deviled eggs that feels nostalgic and satisfying. They’re simple, they look nice, and they taste even better. All you need are eggs, mayo, mustard, salt, and paprika. After boiling and slicing the eggs, mash the yolks and mix them until creamy. You can dress them up with a dash of hot sauce or a sprinkle of chives if you want, but even the classic version is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. They’re also easy to transport, which makes them perfect for gatherings.

Spinach Feta Dip
This one never misses. It’s rich, warm, and somehow makes everyone believe you put in way more effort than you actually did. Mix thawed frozen spinach with cream cheese, feta, garlic, and a spoonful of mayo. Pop it in the oven or microwave until it’s hot and creamy. Serve it with toasted bread, pita chips, or even tortilla chips if that’s what you have. The salty feta balances perfectly with the spinach, and the texture is perfect for dipping while chatting around the table.

Jalapeño Poppers
If you want something a little more exciting, jalapeño poppers are the move. Slice the peppers in half, scoop out the seeds, and fill them with cream cheese. Add a bit of shredded cheddar or a breadcrumb topping if you want some crunch, then bake them until they bubble. If you want to get a little more fancy with them, you can also wrap them in bacon which is definitely far from regretful and in my opinion, the best way to serve these. They’re spicy, cheesy, and somehow addictive. I’ve seen a whole tray disappear in minutes.

Onion Soup Dip
This one’s a classic for a reason, and it’s ridiculously easy. Mix a packet of onion soup mix into a container of sour cream and chill it for about 30 minutes. That’s it. Another way to spice this dish up would be to sprinkle your favorite cheese on-top, then pop it in the oven until warm and melted. Serve it with potato chips or pretzels, and you’ve just made something that tastes like home without spending more than a few dollars.

Loaded Potato Bites
If you’re looking for something a little heartier, these are perfect. Cut baby potatoes in half, roast them until they’re soft, and top them with shredded cheese, sour cream, bacon bits, and green onions. They’re basically mini baked potatoes, but bite-sized and portable. It’s the kind of comfort food that makes everyone hover near the snack table.

Caprese Skewers
For something lighter and fresh, try small skewers with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and basil leaves. Drizzle them with balsamic glaze or olive oil. They take just a few minutes to put together, look colorful on the table, and balance out all the heavier dishes perfectly.
At the end of the day, Friendsgiving isn’t about cooking something elaborate or picture-perfect. It’s about showing up with a dish you’re proud of and sharing it with the people who make college life a little easier to handle.
So this year, don’t stress about outdoing anyone or spending too much. Pick one of these easy appetizers, grab your ingredients, and enjoy the process. Even the simplest dishes can bring people together, and honestly, that’s what the holidays are supposed to be about.
