With October coming to an end, that means college playoffs are starting back up for fall sports. Playoffs are always an exciting time at Cortland, as many teams compete.
Women’s tennis made it to the SUNYAC finals, falling short to New Paltz in a 0-4 loss. The team finished with a 7-7 record and 3-2 in the SUNYAC conference. The team had a big 4-3 win the day before the finals in the SUNYAC semifinals against Oswego, who they lost against earlier in the regular season. Cortland had three athletes on the tennis team that received all SUNYAC honors with two seniors, Emma Madigan and Preston Fuerbacher and one sophomore, Christina Massoni.
The men’s soccer team clinched the SUNYAC regular season title on October 25th against Potsdam in a 2-0 win. The SUNYAC semifinals will take place on November 5th at Cortland on the T. Fred Holloway Field. Cortland currently sits at a 12-1-4 record and a 7-0-2 conference record with a four-game win streak. Cortland had six athletes on the men’s soccer team that received all SUNYAC honors in 2024 and look to match that this year.
The women’s soccer team is also having a great season currently sitting at 11-2-4 overall and 7-0-1 in the SUNYAC. The team is on a two-game win streak and is heading to Oneonta on Tuesday October 28th at 1 pm. Oneonta is sitting at 4-7-4 overall and 2-3-3 in the conference making Cortland projected to win. After Oneonta, Cortland is off to the SUNYAC semifinals where they will play at home on Wednesday, November 5th on the T. Fred Holloway Field.
The Red Dragons Field Hockey team is sitting at 6-9 overall but 3-2 in their conference. On Friday, November 7th, they will travel to New Paltz for the SUNYAC semifinals. The semifinals are a rematch of October 11th where Cortland lost a close game 1-2. New Paltz is sitting at 10-6 and 4-1 in conference.
The football team has been undefeated since week 2 and are looking to continue their streak through the last three weeks. Sitting at 6-1 and 5-0 in the Empire 8 they look to finish undefeated in the Empire 8 before facing Ithica in the Cortaca Jug to end the regular season on November 15th. The Red Dragons have one more home game of the regular season which will be played on Saturday, November 8th against Brockport at 12 pm. The first round of the playoffs takes place on November 22nd where Cortland hopes to start their run going into January.
Cortland’s volleyball team is sitting at 19-6 overall with 4 games left in the regularar season. The Red Dragons are undefeated in the SUNYAC conference sitting at 7-0 with two games left. Cortland will have all the SUNYAC playoffs games at home on November 14th and 15th.
