With Halloween coming up, most college students are scrambling to find a good costume. We often see the same basic costumes every year because they can get expensive. Still, even the easiest, cheapest costumes can be the most creative ones. Here are some single and group costumes that are fun and simple, but will have everyone obsessed!

1. Children’s Books
Whether going by yourself or with a large group, children’s books are a fun, nostalgic costume idea. From Cat in the Hat to Fancy Nancy, the options are truly endless. Nobody wants to be uncomfortable all night long, and with this costume you won’t be. You can simply take any clothes that you have lying around and turn them into your favorite book. To make this costume, all you will need is a shirt and pants that go along with the character of the book you’re trying to recreate. If you need to make some accessories, you can always go to your nearest craft store to buy supplies for the job.

2. Sad Ant Meme
Although only a select few people may understand this costume, it will certainly win them over. The sad ant meme is a unique and easy idea if you need to put something together in a pinch. This niche costume will likely confuse everyone, which makes it even more entertaining. You will be the highlight of the Halloween party if you choose to dress up as this meme. All you need to make this costume is a plain brown outfit, a headband with antennae, and a stick with a blue bag at the end of it. It might take some crafting, but by the end of it, you will be looking priceless.
3. Malibu Barbie, Elvis Presley, and Aquaman

I’ve never heard of a more iconic trio costume than this one. Everyone who is chronically online will no doubt know what this costume is. For those who aren’t, these three names refer to the children of media personality Trisha Paytas. It struck much controversy on the internet when she announced the names, but they do make for a hilarious costume. If you get split up from your friends during the night, you will still have a known costume that is just as iconic alone. To be Barbie, you can simply wear anything you own that is pink. For Elvis, you will need a white jacket and pants, a red undershirt, and sunglasses. To be Aquaman, you will need a gold top, blue-green pants, black boots, and a trident. Whether it be made simple or over-the-top, this is a great costume either way.

4. Curious George
This adorable and easy costume is perfect for a couple, best friends, or even by yourself. Curious George is a classic story, but it still makes for a creative costume idea. The roles of George and the man with the yellow hat are also interchangeable for whoever it is you are spending Halloween with. For the monkey, all you need are brown clothes, a headband with ears, and maybe a banana if you want a funny accessory or even a snack. To be the man, you will need a yellow button-up, khaki pants, boots, and a matching yellow hat and tie. This costume will make for great pictures and will have you feeling cute all night.

5. Cereal Mascots
Like the children’s book ideas, cereal mascots offer a variety of costumes for a single person or a group. Whether you’re a Flintstones character for Fruity Pebbles or Tony the Tiger for Frosted Flakes, you can be creative for a cheap price. All you need for this costume is an outfit that matches the mascot of the cereal of your choice and a headband to go along with it. You can also add the cereal box to help people know who you are and for a little treat later in the night. These costumes are comfortable and easy, and will have everyone obsessed with your look.

6. Lock, Shock, and Barrel
For a spookier Halloween costume, the three kids from The Nightmare Before Christmas are an excellent choice. Most trio costumes are the main characters of movies, but with these three being minor characters in the movie, it makes this costume much less basic. Still, they are well-known enough for people to know who you are and not have to wonder. To be Lock (left), you will need a red shirt and pants, a red mask, and red hair or a wig. For Shock (right), you will need a witch’s hat, green mask or face paint, and a purple dress. Lastly, for Barrel (middle), you will need a skeleton outfit that you can either buy or make, a white skeleton mask, an orange lollipop, and green hair or a wig. These costumes may take a bit of crafting, but they will surely be worth it when you get to see the exciting results.

7. News Flash
To end with the funniest, most affordable costume: news flash. This costume is bound to get some laughs, and it’s extremely simple. Anyone in college can make it, just find your newspaper, tape it around yourself, and wear a long coat over it. To make this costume even better, you can rip open the jacket and see the shocked look on their faces as they realize your costume. This look makes for a great pun that will make you the life of the party.
After seeing all of these creative costumes, I cannot wait to see what other unique ideas people come up with for Halloween. Whether they’re scary, funny, or cute, I look forward to the looks. I hope these examples will help you decide what costume you’ll pick for this year!
