Isabella DiMartino’s Indoor Cycling Class

Ava Gauld · September 15, 2025

At SUNY Cortland, students have access to a wide range of group exercise classes that promote healthy and active lifestyles.  Among the many options available, Senior Isabella DiMartino’s indoor cycling class stands out with her upbeat energy and welcoming environment.

Isabella DiMartino is a senior from Westchester County, New York, studying early childhood education, with a concentration in English. This fall, she is starting her third semester teaching indoor spin classes, a passion of hers since she began attending them as a freshman here at Cortland. “I was inspired to start teaching spin classes as I continue to attend indoor cycling classes and have fallen in love with them,”  Shared DiMartino.

Classes are held in the spinning room, which is located on the bottom floor of the Student Life Center, at 7 pm on Tuesdays, and 4:30 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays. At first glance, the room mainly consists of bikes ready for use, but when Isabella’s class begins, the room accelerates to a high vibrational and energetic atmosphere. Although it is a challenge by choice, this is where students can come to find not just a workout but a sense of community and a safe space. “The workout itself impacted me in positive ways both physically and mentally. I love the source of community and being in a workout class with others, so the energy is up, and everyone can help motivate each other,” DiMartino explained.

While Isabella’s cycling is a group exercise class, its high energy makes fitness fun and engaging. Having an upperclassman guide other students is beneficial to the health and wellness of students here at Cortland. Whether it is your first or final semester, DiMartino makes everyone feel welcome.  She mentions, “When I attend other indoor cycling classes, the instructor is such a significant part of my experience as a participant. I want all participants to feel the same way in which they were in a safe space, allowing their body to move healthily.” As she strives to be a supportive instructor, DiMartino aims to impact students by leaving them feeling empowered and healthy, while also having a wonderful time.

As Isabella begins her senior year at Cortland this fall, she has exciting plans to enhance her classes. Wardrobe themes will be making a comeback, as there have been neon, blackout, and whiteouts in the past. A new addition this semester will be music-themed classes, which students will have to stay tuned for! SUNY Cortland is lucky to have Isabella as an instructor, and students should be encouraged to try out her class this year.
