College Rookies Find New Homes in the NFL:

martin.curran · May 13, 2025

The 2025 NFL draft has just concluded after an action-packed weekend in Green Bay, Wisconsin. This draft was filled with strategic picks, surprising slides and was filled with teams hoping to find their next franchise player. With 257 players chosen in this year’s draft we hope that they all have long and prosperous careers.

With the first pick, The Tennessee Titans selected Cam Ward out of Miami and that was no surprise since Tennessee has struggled to find a franchise quarterback in the last couple of years. With the Next pick Jacksonville trades up to Number 2 and selects Travis Hunter the two-way Heisman winner out of Colorado. There were many reports after the draft that the Giants looked to trade up to number one, but after many unsuccessful attempts they decided to stick with Abdul Carter at pick three and then trade back into the first round and draft quarterback Jaxson Dart at 25. This surprised many, since everyone presumed Shedeur Sanders would be the second quarterback taken, but after his immense cockiness, many NFL executives and coaches were unsure whether to draft the former NFL Legends son.

But finally, the time came, Shedeur Sanders was selected in the fifth round, by the Cleveland Browns. This became a surprise to many as they had just drafted Oregon quarterback Dillion Gabriel in the 3rd round. Many analysts criticized the Browns for having this crowded quarterback room. Other analysts began to question Sander’s slide. Giants’ executives told the media that Shedeur seemed unprepared for his combine meeting with them. Others say his father, Deion’s involvement in the draft process steered teams away. Of course, these claims are speculation, and we will have to wait and see how Shedeur Sanders transitions in the League.

The Super Bowl Champion Eagles received high grades for their draft by addressing key defensive needs. They selected Jihaad Campbell and Safety Andrew Mukuba who are both expected to see playing time right away. Kansas City Chiefs focused on their offensive line that struggled so much in their Super bowl loss by selecting Josh Simmons in the first round. They also were able to draft edge rushers Omarr Norman-Lott and Ashton Gillotte, and they are hopeful to be right back in the Super bowl this year. Mike Vrabel and the Patriots got their guy, Will Campbell out of LSU, ensuring the protection on Drake Maye for this season. Finally, the man who most college football fans believe was snubbed from winning the Heisman this year, Ashton Jeanty was selected sixth overall by the Las Vegas Raiders. Ashton Jeanty is hoping to become one of the best running backs in the NFL just like he was at Boise State last year.

Next up, Training camp. These teams will soon start meeting and integrating these newfound newcomers into their playbooks and see what impact they can make on the field. The 2025 NFL season will be a good one and we will soon find out whether players are bust, or stars. By the end of the season, many people forget the draft grades that their teams have received. But by the end of the year fans will know whether their teams aced or failed this year’s Draft.

As we look ahead, the 2026 NFL draft is set to be held in Pittsburgh and it was just announced that the 2027 Draft will be held in our nation’s capital, Washington D.C.
