Cortland County restaurants invited local customers to partake in their annual restaurant week that began Monday to Friday, March 24-30. Promotions like deals and special dishes were on display attracting both SUNY Cortland students and local Cortland residents.
The Rock serves a bar style menu with much variety, including, french fries, fried pickles, and fried mushrooms. Famously the burgers are prepared with two smashed hamburgers offered with toppings of choice. The night time manager said she is excited for the kickoff of this annual event, offering meal deals. The manager said the deals bring in more business from Cortland students, new customers along with the restaurant’s regulars.
The manager said one deal that everyone is excited about is the $25 meal deal. This deal offers an appetizer, entree and a drink. This offer lasted all day for customers.
The night time manager said she sees a difference in attendance especially once classes finish up and people get off of work. The business thrives during this week and is glad that customers are taking advantage of this week’s events.
SUNY Cortland sophomore Sam Kustal saved the date for Cortland Restaurant week, making sure to take advantage of the deals offered at The Rock especially.
“ It was active,” said Kustal. “There was a lot of motion, a great place to watch an awesome sporting event, TVs were everywhere and the deals were awesome.”
Kustal said he loves The Rock, has a go to order and sees a number of familiar faces from campus out at the restaurant’s nightlife.
“My order is an all American burger with waffle fries and a side of buffalo wings. I see students that work in the student life center out to dinner often and make sure to say hello,” said Kustal.
The Rock is within walking distance from on campus students and a quick drive away from those living off campus.
Throughout the week and for sporting events on the weekends, students can treat The Rock as a sports escape from the stress of school. College students are a large percentage of consumers for them, said the night time manager.
Down the street from The Rock sits Veracruzana Mexican Restaurant located at 10 Port Watson St. This small kitchen provides a menu filled with Mexican cuisine. During Cortland Restaurant week this business offers menu deals as well, and hopes that this will lead to more customers. The Manager of the business said that most of the time business is slow with few regulars they can count on. The deals being offered this week have brought in more business thus far.
The Veracruzana restaurant tends to have consistent customers who are loyal to their menu, said the Manager.
However at times she noted that the restaurant faces periods of low activity.
This was the 2nd annual Cortland Restaurant week and appears to be an event that will continue due to proven success.
