Every year, the Syracuse St. Patrick’s Day Parade brings excitement, tradition, and a strong sense of community to Upstate New York. This year, the highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, filling the streets of Syracuse with music, dancing, and a celebration of Irish American culture.
The parade first started in 1983 and has grown into one of the largest parades in the country. This is the 43rd Syracuse parade and the parade is family friendly and welcomes all ages to come down, wear green and enjoy the day.

For many people in Central New York, the numbers “315” are more than just an area code—they represent home. Irish immigrants have been settling in this region for centuries, building strong communities and lasting traditions. With this year’s parade falling on 3/15, the event will honor the deep connections formed in the 315 area. Being that there is a theme each year, this year’s theme is “I315H”. Past themes have been, Dublin Down in Emerald City, March into spring and Gift of the Gaels. Organizers are encouraging participants to decorate their floats in ways that showcase their pride in Syracuse and its Irish heritage.
Each year, the parade recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact on the community. This year’s honorees include Grand Marshal Mayor Ben Walsh and Gael of the Year Meg O’Connell. These leaders have demonstrated dedication to the city and continue to contribute to its growth and community strength.
The Syracuse St. Patrick’s Parade is organized into six divisions, each representing different aspects of Irish history. The divisions include the Connacht Division, the Grand Marshal Division, the Project Children Division, the Leinster Division, the Munster Division, and the Ulster Division. With colorful floats, energetic marching bands, and excited crowds lining the streets, the parade is a must-see event for all ages.
Whether you want to march in the parade, volunteer, or simply enjoy the festivities, there are plenty of ways to participate. The event’s official website provides details on parade routes, schedules, and ways to donate. South Salina Street, between Washington Street and Erie Boulevard West, will be closed from approximately 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on March 14 for the ceremonial painting of the parade’s green stripe. Before the parade there is a parade day mass specially held for this day. Details on the whereabouts can be found on the website.
Attendees are advised to plan their parking in advance and consider using public transportation to avoid congestion. Detailed parking information is available on the city’s official website. You can join the mailing list on the website as well that will keep you up to date on any parade day changes. The parade is also televised for three hours on NewsChannel 9 WSYR, so those who can’t attend can still support and enjoy the parade from anywhere.
After the parade, local establishments like to keep the party going. Downtown, there is Kitty Hoynes, a bar known for being a true Irish bar. This Pub and Restaurant is known for their famous Shepherd’s Pie and Bangers and Mash. You can also stop by to drink some Irish whiskey at Al’s Wine and Whiskey, Mulrooneys or even Limerick Pub for more Irish celebrations. The parade brings thousands of visitors to downtown Syracuse, benefiting local businesses like these restaurants, bars, and shops.
