With graduation just around the corner, it’s important to remember to set aside time for senior portraits. March 24-28, in the Caleion Room (3rd Floor, Corey Union), is the last chance seniors will have to capture their final moments as a Red Dragon.
Free sessions are open from 9am-5pm all week. With only a couple more spots left, make sure you book yours today.
Senior portraits are more than just a photograph, they represent a pivotal moment in a student’s life. They capture all of the hard work, achievements, and personal growth over the past 4 years.
Whether the next step in your life is moving on to higher education, the workforce, or any other dreams you may have, these portraits will forever symbolize your time here spent at Cortland.
Pictures will be taken in both your own business attire as well as poses in an academic cap and gown which will be provided for you during the service. Wearing something plain or a solid dark color is always a safe choice for portraits.
If you are unable to afford professional clothing for your pictures, the Cortland Closet has them available for students which is located in Old Main, Room B-05.
The session is estimated to take about 5 minutes. With only a couple of poses needed, it shouldn’t take students too long to capture the end of their journey here at Cortland.
Students are encouraged to take both a silly shot and a professional shot. Pictures are also taken both horizontal and landscape for a wide variety of options.
Faith Stone, a senior Adolescent English Education Major shared her experience as she took her senior portraits during the first spring session.
“I took like 10 plus pictures I feel”, she said. “They do a silly shot, like you can make a peace sign or a heart or whatever and also a ‘professional’ one with your arms crossed”.
Stone also mentioned that if you miss the portraits or can’t book a session, the student career services has free professional headshots as another portrait opportunity.
An access code will be provided during sessions that can be used online to view any photographs taken 7-10 days after your shoot.
Senior portraits are a meaningful tradition that will forever honor your journey as a student. They capture this moment in time that you will forever cherish and look back on.
The portraits can also be used on resumes, LinkedIn profiles, or other career-related purposes as you take the next step into the professional world. Using the professional shots to equip yourself with a valuable tool for future endeavors is always a good idea.
