On 24th Feb, 2025, the CMS Department hosted the “Love Your Major” event from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Hallway Outside the CMS Department Office on Van Hoesen Hall’s first floor.

The event aimed at bringing (COM/CIN) majors and minors together to get to know the faculty, connect with other students, and celebrate their love for their majors.
The event featured snacks, sodas, and small giveaways like pencils, erasers, stuffed animals, and cups.
Students played games like bingo and word searches to win fun prizes. It was a chance for students to relax, meet new people, and enjoy some treats while celebrating their shared passions. At the very end of the event a cake was cut and passed around to students and faculty.

One of the main reasons for the event was so students could meet faculty members. It gave students a chance to learn about the department and the many opportunities available to them in their major. Students enjoyed having the chance to speak with professors and get to know them outside of the classroom.

Delani O’Leary, a COM major, was excited to attend. She shared her thoughts about the event: “I’m so happy I came to Love Your Major today. It gave me a chance to connect with other students who share the same passion that I have. It’s great to meet people who are on the same path. And of course, it’s always fun to win a prize!”
For many students, the event was a chance to meet others with similar interests. It was a fun and relaxed environment where students could make new friends and strengthen their connections with their professors and peers.
The “Love Your Major” event was a great success in helping students connect with others in their major, while also giving them a break from their studies. It reminded everyone that they are part of a community with similar passions and interests. Students left the event feeling more connected and excited about their academic journeys.

This event is just one example of how the CMS department is working to build a strong, supportive community where students feel encouraged and engaged. It’s a great reminder that sometimes, connecting with others in a fun and informal setting can be just as valuable as anything learned in the classroom.
