Valentine’s Day is approaching, falling on Friday, February 14th. This holiday is famous for dinner dates, and nothing beats the perfect dinner at one of the area’s best local restaurants. Here are the top five restaurants I recommend you go to on Valentine’s Day.
The first restaurant is “Community Restaurant,” located right here on Cortland’s Main Street. This restaurant is known for its Greek food but also its wide range menu. The atmosphere is cozy and perfect for a romantic night. The entree portions are huge and affordable. They also offer a happy hour from 4-6 pm where appetizers are 12 dollars and drinks are 8 dollars, which is an unbeatable price.
The second recommendation, “Francesca’s Cucina” in Syracuse, is a must visit. This charming restaurant specializes in traditional Italian cuisine. It is known for its handmade pasta, fresh ingredients, and classic dishes. They also have an extensive wine list for your night of romance, and the service here is exceptional. Start your meal with the fritto misto, a delightful mix of fried calamari, shrimp, and vegetables served with marinara sauce. If you’re craving pasta, the fettuccine alfredo is made with a rich sauce, and a parmesan flavor is exceptional.
In third place, if you’re looking for something with a bit of energy, “Pastabilities” in Syracuse offers the perfect vibe for a Valentine’s Day dinner. Similar to Francesca’s its famous for its pasta, freshly made in-house, and sauces, Pastabilities is the ultimate comfort food destination. They host a happy hour from 4:00 -5:30, Monday through Friday, if you’re looking for an early and quick meal. Don’t forget to try their infamous Spicy Hot Tomato Oil—it’s the perfect appetizer to share! For the entree, they have a build-your-own pasta section where you first pick the shape of pasta and then out of 14 sauce options. The pasta with lobster seems to be the fan-favorite entree.
Hidden in Homer, “Dasher’s” is an upscale, yet relaxed vibe that makes it perfect for a romantic evening. The restaurant’s menu is seasonally inspired and highlights fresh, local ingredients, showcasing a farm-to-table dining experience that feels personal. Dasher’s is a higher-end restaurant, so you can expect to pay a bit more. Appetizers typically range from $10 to $15, with options like their charcuterie board and seared scallops that are excellent starting points for your meal. For your main course, you can expect to pay anywhere from $25 to $40, depending on what you choose. A popular option is the filet mignon, which usually runs around $35, served with creamy mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. They are also known for their lobster risotto, which is a fantastic choice, priced around $30.
Last but certainly not least, “Brix” in Cortland is an excellent choice for a Valentine’s Day date. I’m sure you’ve been here before as to why it’s low on the list, but it is always a reliable option. The restaurant offers contemporary American food, and their menu changes seasonally, so there’s always something new to try. They are also known for their pizza oven right in the restaurant, and you can see them being made. It is also located on main street, which is convenient. The prices here are moderate for a dinner out.
These five recommendations all fit the Valentines Day date night vibe and within reasonable distance. I believe these all fit into the college budget and will most likely become a new favorite you can show your friends or family if they come to visit you. Whether you’re planning a quiet, intimate dinner or a lively celebration with your loved one, these five local restaurants are sure to provide a great Valentine’s Day experience. So, book your reservation early and get ready to indulge in the best food that Central New York has to offer. Happy Valentine’s Day!
