Students find themselves in the annual rush to complete final projects, study for exams, and put the finishing touches on months of hard work.
As the fall semester at SUNY Cortland comes to a close, the campus buzzes with the familiar energy of final projects, exams, and the last-minute scramble to hand in work. For students, it’s a time of reflection, determination, and late nights at the Memorial Library.
The final weeks of the semester bring a whirlwind of activity, as students balance presentations, research papers, and cumulative exams. The Memorial Library has been a hub of productivity, with extended hours until 2 a.m, groups gather for late night studying.
“It’s definitely stressful,” said senior Alivia Myers, who’s working on a history paper while prepping for two final exams. “But the extended library hours have been a lifesaver. It’s great knowing I have a quiet place to focus.”
As students finalize their work, faculty and advisors encourage them to double-check grades and ensure all submissions are accounted for. “This is the time to email your professors if you notice any discrepancies in your grades or need clarification,” said Professor Wieder. “Taking initiative and staying organized is key.”
To help students unwind, SUNY Cortland’s English Club is hosting an End of Semester Celebration on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Old Main Room 127. The event promises to be a welcome break from the grind, offering free pizza and snacks. Students are invited to take a moment to relax, reflect on the semester, and share their experiences with peers and club members.
For many, the fall semester has been an opportunity to grow academically and socially, and the English Club’s event offers a chance to acknowledge that growth. Whether students are wrapping up their first semester or their final year at SUNY Cortland, these last few weeks are both challenging and rewarding.
As the semester concludes, students are reminded to take care of their mental and physical well-being. Whether it’s a short walk to clear their heads, a celebratory slice of pizza, or simply reaching out for support, these small actions can make a big difference during such a demanding period.
