This past weekend, the SUNY Cortland swimming and diving teams travelled to The College of New Jersey to compete in their annual winter invitational meet.
Competing alongside the two teams were Stevens Institute, United States Merchant Marine Academy, SUNY New Paltz, West Chester, and Montclair State.
In team standings, the women’s team finished third and the men’s team finished fourth overall.
On the women’s side, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Cassidy Amber-Torres, Ella Garrow, Tristinye Martinez-Reyes and Alayna Miller finished second in 1:41.74. The 400-yard medley relay team of Martinez-Reyes, Amber-Torres, Morgan Hannon and Leah Bernhardt finished fourth in 4:09.32.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Julia Bryce placed 11th (2:20.49) and Peyton Glor placed 12th (2:21.06). In the 50-yard freestyle, Miller placed 2nd (24.97). Rhianna Lynch placed 9th (25.80), Amber-Torres placed 10th (25.96), and Erin Galligan placed 14th (26.50).
The 200-yard medley relay team of Emily Lantry, Garrow, Miller, and Areiannah Martinez-Reyes placed 3rd in 1:53.03.
Hannon won the 400-yard individual medley by almost two seconds in 4:46.59. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Bernhardt placed 2nd in 1:56.80.
The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Ryann Redmond, Hannon, Bryce, and Bernhardt placed 3rd in 8:07.46.
Bernhardt then won the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:59.97, winning by almost ten full seconds. Redmond was 4th in 18:21.55. In the 100-yard freestyle, Miller placed 5th in 55.62.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Bryce placed 3rd (2:13.75), Hannon placed 5th (2:15.42), Areiannah Martinez-Reyes placed 7th (2:19.04), and Tristinye Martinez-Reyes placed 8th (2:20.36).
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Bernhardt, Amber-Torres, Hannon, and Miller placed 3rd in 3:43.86.
On the one-meter board, Alyssa Haberlack placed fifth (332.20) and Sam Matthes placed seventh (282.45). On the three-meter board, Haberlack placed third (335.00), Matthes placed fifth (294.55), and Mackenzie Mulcahey placed eighth (252.05).
On the men’s side, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Jack Clark, Kellen Dickman, Hunter Sugrue-Neundorf and Dylan Anselment placed fourth in 1:25.78. The 400-yard medley team of Dominic Fratto, Sugrue-Neundorf, Dickman, and Clark placed fourth in 3:31.61.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Anselment placed 7th (21.83).
In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Fratto, Sugrue-Neundorf, Dickman, and Clark placed eighth in 1:35.68.
In the 400-yard individual medley, Ayden Baxter placed 8th (4:21.33). Conner Utter was 13th (4:31.21), and Michael Tomasino was 15th (4:36.30).
In the 100-yard butterfly, Dickman placed 7th (51.22). In the 200-yard freestyle, Clark placed 8th (1:48.08). In the 100-yard breaststroke, Sugrue-Neundorf placed 14th (1:00.28).
In the 100-yard backstroke, Fratto placed 7th (52.89), Makiah Poli placed 15th (55.31), and Trent deHaan placed 16th (56.32).
The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Sean Zupko, Patrick Kivlehan, Mason Rowlands and Dylan Monaco placed 7th in 7:19.59.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Fratto placed 14th (2:0215), and Zupko placed 15th (2:04.20). In the 200-yard breaststroke, Poli placed 15th (2:15.26). In the 100-yard freestyle, Sugrue-Neundorf placed 11th (48.52), Anselment placed 14th (49.77), Peter Brelesky placed 15th (50.02), and Monaco placed 16th (50.17).
In the 200-yard butterfly, Dickman placed 6th (2:00.97). The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Anselment, Rowlands, Sugrue-Neundorf, and Fratto placed 4th in 3:13.91.
On the three-meter board, Kazuki-Kadota Browner won (459.25), and Alex Hilldale placed eighth (322.65). On the one-meter board, Kadota-Browner placed 2nd (445.25), Kevin Kohlhoff placed fifth (392.15), and Hilldale placed 9th (342.25).
Given that TCNJ and Stevens Institute both consistently rank within the top-30 Division III schools, SUNY Cortland showed that they can compete and put up points on the scoreboard.
The team’s next meet will be the Cortland Snowflurries Invitational from December 6th-7th. Come on down to Park Center in two weekends to see the teams swim for a victory against several other SUNYAC teams.
