Over this past week the Cortland Men’s CLub Lacrosse team secured a big win against Temple university in a 7 to 5 victory. Temple university is no joke of a lacrosse team and showed up and played very strong and had some dominant moments but it was not enough to stack up against the Red Dragons. This brings Cortland’s team one step closer to getting to and potentially winning that championship game as they have done in the past. This was a tough matchup for Cortland’s team but they still came out on top with a hard fought game.
Out of all the players on this incredible roster some names stick out a little more from the crowd. Jono Arena and Shane McClernan both had 2 goals each and Ryan Voight, Sam Barney and Nick Ferrara all with one goal each. Beautiful offensive plays were made by these guys and led the red dragons to victory.
Dan Conway and Noah Rojas had countless ground balls showing their heart and love for the game aiding their team in a crucial way allowing the red dragons to gain more possessions and come out on top. Leaving their hearts out on the field and grinding for every ground ball in sight is something that can not be taught. The desire to win and the passion for the game is what drives these young men to perform at such a high level.
On the defensive end the goalie Nick Matthes had many saves that kept them alive and showed tremendous amounts of grit. Defenceman Jay Soler played phenomenally and especially shined in his one on ones keeping the opposing teams attackmen at bay. This is extremely important for the team to be well rounded offensively and defensively as well.
Lacrosse is not a one man game and it is clearly shown by how this team works as one unit and this is a dominant factor into understanding the success of Cortlands Men’s Club Lacrosse team. When you practice as a team and play as a team and move as a team it shows and success is a by-product of that and is showcased so well by this team.
The Men’s Club Lacrosse team has clearly shown that the position they are in and the status of Cortland lacrosse remains as they are a dominant force within their division. They team shows no signs of slowing down and continue to put numbers in the win column. This team is a force to be reckoned with and appear to be o a run to the championship and if completed will be the fourth consecutive year the team has claimed the position of being number one.
Lacrosse is a competitive game and if not looked at as so then a team can crumble. It is important for Cortlands Men’s Club Lacrosse to keep their heads up but to not get to laxed. This season is shaping up to an existing one for the players and for the fans and we cannot wait to continue to follow this team.
