Sabrina Carpenter is a 25-year-old American singer and actress who has made a historical breakthrough in the music industry this past year in 2023-2024.
Her career takes her back to the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World along with other popular movies throughout her teen years. She had 3 previous albums associated with Disney-owned studios before moving to Island Records breaking off from the Disney path. Her fifth album Emails I Can’t Send in 2022 created her sense of identity for the world to see. It was a mature and grownup album that discussed many mature subjects like love and sex appeal. Her fame was slowly rising as she had two phenomenal pop hits “Nonsense” and “Feather”.
More attention has come to her as she opened for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in 2023. This especially got her name out there because Taylor has a major fanbase so the exposure for her was crucial and worked wonders in her favor for what’s to come next.
After the 2023 Eras tour, she hit the fan base with her new album that was released this August Short n’ Sweet. THIS ALBUM IS TO DIE FOR. This is the new image of her identity. This new album is scandalous, dirty, and dramatic. Her fashion consists of youthful energy inspired by vintage charm. She is the new Barbie, Marilynn Monroe. She is always wearing pastel colors with her shiny blonde hair and curtain bangs. She loves corsets, tights, and glamorous nightgowns.
Now what makes her stand out is her vintage look. It’s like we’re back in the ’60s but she puts a chic feminine glamorized spin to it. What everyone loves about her is her innocent youth look but her music and performances are scandalous. Her songs hold a strong theme of love interest and boy drama but instead of sad romantic songs, she makes it clear women are in power. It’s almost like she’s bashing men, talking down to them.
From her music, it’s clear that if you come across Sabrina’s path, don’t make a fool out of her because you know her next song is going to expose you. On her new album the song “Please Please Please”, Sabrina sings, “Heartbreak is one thing/ My egos another/ I beg you, don’t embarrass me motherfucker”. She’s begging for a man to love her but she is making it clear that she is the real prize here.
Another empowering song that I love is “Good Graces”. The song is about how if you choose her she will love you and worship you but the second you cross her, you’re dead to her. The chorus says, “Boy it’s not that complicated/ You should stay in my good graces/ Or I’ll switch it up like that, so fast/ Cause no one’s more amazing at turning loving into hatred”. She is screaming to the world “Do not take my nice for naive”. I just love the boldness and turning a serious message into a nice and sweet song. It’s super empowering for women. She is a badass role model for women in their teens and twenties.
