This yearβs celebration was especially noteworthy, as the festival received recognition from USA Todayβs 10 Best, being named one of the top 10 fall festivals in the United States in 2023. From family-friendly games to delicious seasonal treats, the Pumpkin Fest truly showcased the spirit of fall and brought the community together for a memorable experience.
The Pumpkin Fest coincided with the weekend leading up to fall break for students at SUNY Cortland, making it an ideal opportunity to unwind and embrace the festive spirit of the season. As the middle of the semester approaches, itβs crucial to create moments for relaxation and enjoyment. The festival’s fun atmosphere offered students a chance to connect with friends, savor seasonal treats, and immerse themselves in the local community. Engaging in these events not only fosters a sense of camaraderie but also helps students recharge as the challenges of the semester continue.
Student’s Enjoy Live Performances
Aimee Cradock, a senior at SUNY Cortland, attended the festival and said:
βThere was live music there; the live music was really good! And there were, of course, pumpkins! I also noticed they had pies, cookies, and so many other treats for sale. I went to a cafe truck and got a pumpkin spice latte; it was so yummy. I would say I had a lot of fun, and anyone in the Cortland area should definitely attend next year!β
Attendees enjoyed live performances by talented local musicians throughout the event, including Quona Hudson, Gary Carpentier, Raedwald Howland-Bolton, Yayle Hues, the David Graybeard Band, Colleen Kattau & Jane Zell, Steve Daniels Swingtet, and People People. These artists brought a diverse range of sounds and styles, enhancing the atmosphere and engaging the crowd with their captivating performances. Each act contributed to the lively energy of the festival, making it a memorable experience for all who attended.
Local Crafters and Artisans Showcase
Along with the music at the festival, the craft show showcased the talents of over 50 local crafters and artisans. Visitors had the opportunity to browse a wide variety of handcrafted items, including unique jewelry and intricate decorations themed for the fall season. This focus on local artistry not only supported the community but also provided attendees with the perfect chance to find one-of-a-kind souvenirs of their experience.
Cider Celebration
Another highlight of the festival was the Pumpkin Pub, showcasing an impressive lineup of local breweries, including the well-loved Cortland Beer Company. This vibrant tent quickly emerged as a favorite among attendees over 21, creating a fun and festive atmosphere filled with an enticing selection of fall-themed drinks. A featured drink was CBC’s delightful Candied Apple Cider, which perfectly captured the fall season.
This event has truly earned its place among the top 10 fall festivals in the United States. We can only hope it will receive the same recognition in 2024!
