Cortland Field Hockeys talented team has started off their 2024-25 season strong currently going their first 7 games of the season undefeated.
The field hockey team moved in early August for their pre-season training to prepare them for another great season with high anticipation after last season’s victory as SUNYAC champions.
This season after a 9-0 start including a 2-1 win over Ithaca in their big Cortaca meet, and their overtime win over Franklin and Marshall, the field hockey team currently breaks their way into the top 10 and ranks 10th on the NFHCA Coaches Poll.
One of their most outstanding games so far this season was their away game against Ramapo with Cortland sweeping the field with an 8-0 victory. Senior, Keirra Ettere, had a huge part in achieving this victory with 3 goals and 1 assist.
Ettere who has continued to have a major impact on the team since her freshmen year, from winning rookie of the year to claiming the titles of All-SUNYAC honors and All-American honors, Ettere has developed a wide display of achievements in her Cortland career.
One would think that the pressure of being undefeated would make for a nerve wrecking season. “As a team, we aim to not let the pressure of last year’s success impact our performance this season.” Ettere confidently states, “We focus on taking things one game at a time and staying in the present. If anything, being undefeated so far and coming off a conference championship last year only fuels our motivation.” She enthusiastically continues, “It drives us to build our strengths and continue to improve as we move forward.”
Approaching your last season can be a bittersweet moment, luckily for Senior Ettere, she continues to strive for more goals to accomplish one last time. “My goals for this season are to continue leading this talented team and to hold both myself and my teammates to the high standards we’ve built over the past four years.” Ettere says, “Of course, we want to keep winning, but it’s crucial to stay composed in the face of whatever challenges arise. Ultimately, I want to enjoy and soak up every moment this season has to offer and have fun along the way considering it is my last. I am excited see what’s in store for the rest of the season!” Ettere exclaims.
Following up on their most recent game once again sweeping their competition, Oswego with an 8-0 victory with goals from 7 different players continuing their undefeated streak this season.
