Fall has officially started, and many people who love this season are already looking into things to do during the “sweater weather” season.
New York not only gets to experience the general good typical things that this season has to offer, but it’s also one of the states in the United States that has the privilege of having four defined seasons throughout the year. During fall, the trees’ leaves will turn yellow, then orange and will eventually fall; restaurants and food franchises will have everything pumpkin flavored; there will be pumpkin patches in almost every corner, and many farms will provide festivals with hayrides, corn maze and many other attractions; Halloween and scary movies will be playing nonstop in the opened channels and there will be a great variety of the same genre in the streams; it’s also football – and hockey season, which means that games will be playing nonstop as well. It’s truly a great season.
Because Fall it’s one of my favorite seasons to be out and about doing things – and because all Cortland students deserve to know the good spots around the area to visit during this season, here are some tips and places of what to do and where to go.
If you like going to hayrides and corn mazes, enjoying some outdoor time and would like to pick your own pumpkin to carve, pumpkin patches are the place to go. They are very family friendly, and you can bring your parents, siblings, or just your friends to have some silly fun time. Around us, there are two big ones with a great diversity of attractions: Moore Family Farm, and The Pumpkin Hollow.
For those who like something scarier – and hunted, for the season, there are many hunted houses and mazes around the state that you could check out. The Fright Night is a good choice. They have one located up in Syracuse and they offer different options of hunted scenarios for you to have fun and get scared at the same time – if that’s even possible.
If you’re more into sports, don’t forget to check out the schedules for NBA, NFL, NHL and College Football – many of the games will be hosted in Syracuse and in Buffalo – if you’re a big fan, the trip is totally worth it. Most importantly, don’t forget to check Cortland’s team’s schedule: football season has already started for us, as well as soccer, volleyball and many others. Hockey season is about to start for Cortland – our men’s ice hockey team will play their first game on October 19th.
Now, if you are more interested in camping, doing small trips where you can see the trees changing and feeling that autumn breeze in your face, there are a few places near the town that you could go, such as Watkins Glen State Park Campground and the Green Lakes State Park.
Regardless of what your vibe is, there are many fun ways to celebrate the season!
