SUNY Cortland will hold its yearly Family Weekend, an exciting event meant to honor the campus community and offer families a taste of college life, from October 25 to October 27, 2024. The weekend looks to be exciting for students and their families, with a full program of activities to enjoy.
On Friday, October 25, Family Weekend kicks off with plenty of early activities. Families are welcome to use the Student Life Center’s fitness facilities for free, which include a track and pool, but advance registration is needed. The SLC will be open from six in the morning until midnight. This is a good opportunity for guests to experience the Student Life Center.
The activities of the day will begin with a welcoming check-in session at Corey Union Lobby from 4 to 7 pm. You will receive a family weekend packet along with reserved tickets and updated schedules for the weekend’s activities. The Cortland bookstore in Neubig will also be open from 9am-6pm, so come grab some Cortland merchandise with your families.
There will be a comedy night hosted by the student activities board at 7pm in the Corey Union Exhibition Lounge. The lineup includes comedians Leonard Ouzts and SNL’s Molly Kearney! So, there will be plenty of laughter and entertainment.
Full Day of Activities and Athletic Events on Saturday
The President’s Barbecue is held in the Corey Union Function Room from 11:30 am to 1 pm. The A Capella group will perform at the event. Student Government President Khyla Diggs and University President Erik J. Bitterbaum will have a few things to say. Advance registration is needed; tickets for the BBQ are $27 for adults and SUNY Cortland students, and $5 for children five and under.
Families can support the Red Dragons at a variety of sporting events after the barbecue. The football team’s game against St. John Fisher is scheduled for 1 pm at Stadium Complex Red Field. There will also be women’s soccer at the Soccer Fields against Buffalo State and field hockey against New Paltz on the Stadium Complex White Field. Family Weekend registration offers discounted football tickets, with free entry for SUNY Cortland students and kids under twelve. Events continue with a Men’s Ice Hockey Exhibition against Hobart at 5 p.m. in Park Center, Alumni Arena.
October 26 at 8 p.m. the renowned two-person telepathic duo, The Evasons Mentalist Duo, will perform in the Old Main Brown Auditorium. Tessa and her partner have stunned audiences in 35 countries with their incredible talents, which include recognizing names of loved ones who live far away, birthdays, and serial numbers on bills—all while Tessa is wearing a blindfold! The pair has also been featured on popular TV programs, showing off their amazing talents.
Last Day of Travel
Family Weekend comes to a finish on Sunday, October 27, with more things to do. For last-minute shopping, the College Bookstore will be open from 9am to 3pm and the Student Life Center from 8 am to midnight. Also, the Dowd Gallery will be open from 10 am to 4 pm, giving families a final chance to see the art exhibits on campus.
