Campus was filled with excitement as students, faculty, and staff united to celebrate the eagerly anticipated Spring Fling Week at SUNY Cortland. From April 20th to April 27th, our campus transformed into a lively hub of activity, offering a diverse range of events and festivities inspired by this year’s Coachella theme.
The week commenced with the Spring Fling foam party on Saturday, April 20th, where students spent the night in the Hendrick/Hayes Quad, reveling in the carefree spirit of spring with music, foam, and fun. As the week unfolded, excitement continued to mount with an array of events designed to cater to various interests, including karaoke, comedy nights, DIY cowboy hats, and Coachella bingo.
Students were able to showcase their creativity and talent at events like Spring Fling Karaoke and Comedy Night, while others embraced their crafty side at the DIY cowboy hats event, adding their personal flair to their spring attire. The week reached its peak with the Spring Fling Carnival on Saturday, April 27th, held on the Moffett Center Lawn, featuring carnival games, delectable food, and ample opportunities for students to relish the splendid spring weather.
Students expressed their positive reactions to the week, “Spring Fling week was a blast! It was awesome to see so many fun events happening around campus. I had a great time hanging out with friends and enjoying the festivities. Looking forward to next year,” said junior Emily Segur.
The highlight of the week was undoubtedly the highly anticipated Spring Fling Concert, headlined by the dynamic rock band, The Driver Era, featuring lead singer Ross Lynch. Taking the stage at the Park Center Alumni Arena on Saturday night, The Driver Era delivered an electrifying performance, complemented by the talented New York City-based group, Movie Night, who set the stage for an unforgettable evening of entertainment.
Tickets for the concert were in high demand, with students lining up at the Corey Union Info Center to secure their spots. Lucky winners of free tickets through the Student Activities Board’s Instagram contest eagerly awaited the commencement of the show.
“Spring Fling week at SUNY Cortland was the perfect way to unwind and enjoy fun before diving into finals. From the foam party to the concert, it was a week filled with unforgettable moments and memories with friends,” stated junior Maddy Marinelli.
Spring Fling week not only served as a celebration of the conclusion of the semester but also as a testament to the vibrant spirit and sense of community that characterizes SUNY Cortland. With the semester drawing to a close, the memories of Spring Fling week will serve as a reminder of the joy and connection found in coming together to celebrate the essence of spring. Until next year, SUNY Cortland eagerly anticipates upholding the tradition of Spring Fling and creating even more indelible moments for the campus community.
