As April comes around, so does Coachella. One of the biggest music festivals in the world, it’s notoriously known for the celebrities who attend and the outfits they wear.
Coachella is a three-day music festival held in Palm Desert, California. This year, the weekend was filled with everyone’s favorite A-Listers and social media stars.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce made an appearance, standing in the crowd watching as many of the couples’ friends performed on stage. Megan Fox was partying in the desert, along with Justin and Hailey Bieber. Numerous members of the Kardashian/Jenner clan were there, including newbie Landon Barker. Alix Earle and her younger sister Ashtin, Braxton Barrios, Xandra, Charli Damelio, Barry Keoghan, and Brooke Schofield were also in attendance, along with many more.
In recent years, it’s become common for big brands to host celebs and influencers at the festival. This time around, we saw Revolve, Poppi, NYX, 818, Guess Jeans, and Rhode Beauty with Airbnb’s full of stars.
This is a marketing strategy by brands that is sure to get them some attention. This influencers hosted post about the brand for the entire weekend, as all eyes are on them to see what they wore to the festival. This not only creates good publicity for the brand but also for the influencer.
For example, Alix Earle, the social media influencer, went with Poppi, a healthy soda brand.
This collaboration received a lot of love online, with Poppi breaking away from the trend of bringing a lot of influencers together in one house. Instead, Poppi just hosted Alix and many of her true friends and family.
This concept made the advertisement feel a lot more down-to-earth, as audiences didn’t see a bunch of influencers who had never met before acting as if they’d been friends for years for the camera.
Now onto the real stars of the show: the outfits. Coachella has grown over the years because of the amazing outfits these influencers wear and how they show themselves off. For many, this year felt like a breath of fresh air from some of the outfit monstrosities we’ve seen recently.
New York Times and Vogue both wrote articles about some of the outfits people wore and had a collection of artists’ and celebrities most loved outfits and this is what New York Times has to say:
“At Coachella — an orgy of brand activations, parties and musical performances — celebrities are but one reliable component. Another is fashion, which typically tends toward the ostentatious. That was mostly the case last weekend, during which these 15 looks stood out — some for being opulent, others for being over-the-top and a couple for being surprisingly simple.”
Although there are many loved outfits, there are also some that are not so loved. Many people were unhappy with some of the outfits celebrities wore and felt that they needed to be more exciting, but they just didn’t live up to their expectations. WWD: Women Wore Daily wrote an article about some of the worst-dressed people, and this is their take:
“A lot has been said this season about the lineup of musicians at Coachella: the ticket sales are way down, fewer big brands have set up activations — but one thing that stays as strong as ever is the sad state of fashion that the music festival keeps on delivering one year after the next.”
Many people say that as years go on, Coachella isn’t what it used to be. Many believe it’s slowly going downhill and is now “overhyped,” while some say it’s only going up. It’s up to you to decide your opinion, but it’s undeniable that Coachella is one of the most iconic music festivals in the world, in both terms of music and fashion.
