A new video game has been taking the internet by storm. Arrowhead Game Studios launched Helldivers 2, a third-person co-operative team shooter. The game has been very popular since the release, so much so that the games servers have been throttled due to a large player population.
In the world of Helldivers, the players objective is to “Fight for Freedom”, as they try to protect Super Earth from alien invasions. There are two variety of aliens the fight is against, the first being insect formed monsters and other higher tier robotics Automatons give the Helldivers a challenging fight.
The game offers different tasks to complete as players make an attempt to liberate planets from the invaders. Most tasks include neutralizing enemies, or protecting and or securing certain areas. Its predecessor 2015 Helldivers 1 was a Top-down shooter with good ratings but hit nowhere near the sales from the new game.
Helldivers 2 looks like a great game that sadly I can’t personally play as it is limited to PC and PS5. Xbox gamers are out of luck as Sony the owner of PlayStation, holds the rights to the game. Many people have had the speculations that Helldivers could be the game that would end the so called “console war”. Unfortunately, Sony will probably not give up the game’s rights, as they haven’t in the past with their other PlayStation exclusives including “God Of War” and “Spider -Man”. Helldivers has a huge following from many Xbox players even though the game isn’t even available on the platform. Many have compared it to the once great Xbox exclusive and Bungie’s masterpiece the “Halo” franchise, as there was a similar goal of stopping aliens from a world invasion. Not having played it myself I can’t give the most details but that game itself looks great and every clip that I have seen look straight out of an action movie. The aliens remind me of the monsters from “Enders Game” and the Cy-Bugs from the Wreck it Ralph. Many reviews state that the patriotic satire brings up a lot of humor, as the fight for democracy is a running punchline in the war against aliens. The only complaints against the game were the server issues it had at first launch as people couldn’t gain access to play. For a “shoot-em up” genre game, Arrowhead included just the right amount of comedy to keep gamers chuckling as they play. As of right now it is ranked 9/10 on IGN. It also happens to be one of the most played games in the month of February and it’s only of 2 platforms. The Arrowhead Game Studio has the potential to make a lot of people happy and a lot more money if Sony allows for Helldivers 2 to be sold on Xbox. That way I can thousands of others can join the fight for democracy.
