BRU 64 hosted musician and singer-songwriter Taylor Thomas Lane on March 1 as he celebrated turning 20 years old. The performance resulted in a substantial turnout from community members and students alike. The energy was “electric” in the cozy environment of the upscale coffee lounge.
Lane has been performing since May of last year and ever since, he has been eager to continue his career. Stickers with Lane’s logo and QR code to his Link Tree spread across the room for fans to enjoy.
“The performance brought in a younger audience,” said BRU 64 employee Erin. “Something that BRU isn’t very used to during our live music on Friday nights.”
While Lane brought in a large audience from SUNY Cortland, it also flooded with local Cortland residents. Many community members appreciated Lanes commentary and covers from familiar songs as they sang along.
Media Production major, Jake Baglio, kickstarted his photography and videography profile as he captured Lane’s raw talent. He prominently has been creating shorts films in his time at college thus far.
“This is awesome,” said first-year student Baglio. “I have wanted to start doing free-lance work and to do this kind of thing was a really cool opportunity.”
The live performance brought an engaging audience that made an atmosphere worth remembering. People were dancing to pop and country songs such as Whiskey Glasses by Morgan Wallen and Stick Season by Noah Kahan. But most of all, the audience applauded Lane’s array of original songs.
“The atmosphere in BRU is so fun and cute and I love how there is an open space where you can see what’s going on from everywhere,” said sophomore Morgan Jozwiak. “Taylor is such a great singer, and his smile shows that he really loves what he is doing. It is always so fun to watch him perform.”
Lane felt comfortable surrounded by his friends and on-campus community while he did what he was born to do. The audience included resident assistants, athletes, and more, all with one thing in common: supporting Lane.
“Everyone was super enthusiastic,” said Lane. “They were cheering very loudly after every song I played, and I felt like it was more of a concert than a gig.”
Most of the time, Lane plays beside strangers, however this performance consisted mostly of people who came to see him play. Following the night of Lane’s appearance at BRU, fans congratulated him while they attended another live music event in the town of Cortland at a local brewery.
“A guy came up to me and said that he performed here last week,” said Lane. “He wished me a happy birthday and said that I was very talented.”
The man happened to be a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, and music producer from Central Upstate New York by the name of Bradford Allen. Lane is looking forward to contacting him in the future, hopefully to collaborate considering their similar music tastes.
This is only the beginning for Taylor Thomas Lane, and he cannot wait for what the future has in store. Stay tuned for more performances and original song releases from the up-and-coming artist.
