Logan Street, the senior forward on SUNY Cortland’s women’s basketball team, has had a remarkable season. With an impressive tally of 369 points scored just this season alone, and her career total stands at 521 Streety has been a key player for the Red Dragons.
Surprisingly, basketball wasn’t Streety’s primary focus during her formative years. Coming from a background where tennis held more significance, she initially envisioned herself pursuing a collegiate tennis career rather than a basketball career.
It wasn’t until 6th grade that Streety picked up a basketball, and her passion for the sport didn’t arise until junior year when her choice about what she wanted to continue to play in college changed.
Reflecting on those past years, Streety said, “I actually grew up intending to play tennis in college, so basketball was always on the back burner. Eventually, tennis became a chore and I started to love basketball because it was just supposed to be fun, and this sport didn’t put any added pressure on me.”
Joining the Red Dragons as a freshman, Streety obtained a personal and team goal of clinching the SUNYAC Championship. This goal was fulfilled last season, marking one of the most prized accomplishments of her basketball career.
This season, Streety’s approach to high-pressure situations on the court has been very important in the way she performs every game. She uses the pressure presented to her at each game as a challenge to improve.
She said, “I try to stay as calm as possible. Whether we’re up or down on the scoreboard, I also try to stay as levelheaded and consistent as possible because anything can happen at any given point.”
Streety’s dedication extends beyond her own individual performance. She aims to instill consistency and intensity within her team both in her statistical contributions and her leadership role.
Demonstrating reliability and commitment, Streety positions herself as a dependable teammate and player to her coaches and fellow teammates throughout the 2023/2024 season.
Choosing SUNY Cortland was a deliberate and impactful decision for Streety, driven by her wants and desires to be a part of something that was a transformative experience both athletically and personally.
Recognizing Cortland’s reputation for making growth an important factor in your basketball career, she was drawn to the high standards set within the athletic community and the supportive environment of the Red Dragons women’s basketball program.
Streety said, “I chose Cortland because I wanted to be part of something special. Between the athletic community and just the women’s basketball program in general, the standards are set high and it’s a family at the end of the day.”
Streety’s journey from a tennis enthusiast to a basketball standout exemplifies resilience and adaptability. Her impact not only shows on the court but also within the individuals she has met in her prior four years.
Streety will take what she has learned from basketball and apply it to the future that she has in front of her, reminding herself to never let pressure get in the way of her day-to-day life.
